@AtreiyaN7 Basically what I'm saying is not that you shouldn't expect the ME team to do a better job on the ai of ME3 but simply that you cannot compare ME3 with GOW3 because the teams behind their developments are in completely different shooes. The ME teams has a lot more on their plate than the gow3 team with their more simple game. That's all I'm saying.

Ignorant comment right here.

I equally hate both the gears of war and the call of duty series.

I personally don't like gears of war because it feels like I'm on rails all the time, the fact that i have no control whatsoever over any of my squad. but, at the same time, if I tell Garrus to move over there, he should move over there, with haste, and more importantly, stay over there

Now that paragraph's GOLD Javier.

Also, OP, maybe you should reconsider your point N°1, 'cause I'm sure the majority of GoW haters are pretty much the opposite from evolved COD players.

That'd be it.

EDIT: Also, your last post did it. And yes, I hope BW's trying to implement at the very least some part of what you said.

I honestly didn't think the squad AI in ME 2 was that bad. Hell, I found them rather useful, especially on higher difficulty levels where they'd keep the enemy from rushing me while I waited for my shields to recharge.

- They always CROUCHED in cover instead of ENGAGING in TAKING COVER. Meaning they would crouch behind the cover or near it and never fire a single shot nor would they lean in and out of cover. It was really bad and it was a game design flaw.

- They died almost as soon as the action started. I would frequently find them running straight into enemy fire with no real logic.

- Rarely did they listen to my commands and move to where I put the squad thing. They would shout ""CAN'T GET THERE!"" every five seconds which just grinded my friggen gears.

Over all I felt like I was playing baby sitter with the A.I. during ME1 and ME2. This is one problem (out of many) that will cause me to honestly not buy Mass Effect 3. I'm not trolling nor am I "raging" but this is an honest problem I found with the two games that Bioware "claimed" to have solved but didn't. I don't enjoy having a squad that doesn't do anything I ask and doesn't do sh*t in terms of usefullness.

Thoughts?

I pretty much agree with you. The AI was pretty shoddy, and the pathing was very bad. "CAN'T GET THERE" was pretty fail when all they had to do was take two steps backwards, one to the left, and sprint forward. Basically incapable of moving up.

That is, when they weren't jumping into the enemy's fire to make it easier for them.

On higher difficulty in the first game I found my A.I. decent when leveled properly. In Mass Effect 2 - the A.I. on Insanity was down right non existant. I didn't have a single drop of A.I. support, and everytime I took a step out of cover they would instantly jump out and die.

It was aweful...I should record my next Mass Effect 2 run.

Irrelevant.  The fact that someone might like something you don't doesn't make them wrong.  You do seem to be ignorant of something else though: logical fallacies.  Care to guess which one you just used?

What do you mean by evolved cod players? You're joking right? A child could play that game.

I hate both series because they are dumb... and sell a lot... Don't like that.

You know; guessing from your avatar, I bet you'd rage so much you'd become a Keyboard Hero if I told you my opinion on Ashley / Kaidan in Mass Effect 3.

Anyway - please stop posting if everything you talk about is ""GEARS SUX"" or ""ITZ N RPGEEE"" and ""UR FAWLT DEY DIE! UR A SPETHAL ED TEAKURR!""

It makes them wrong when they are trying to compare it to something they shouldn't compare it to.
"oh mass effect doesn't play exactly like my dear dumb gow, unacceptable" No, it is acceptable!

You like that word. I noticed in the other thread we had a short discussion in. It makes me wonder if you like it as much as I like the word terrible.

Sorry, strange observation time at 12:36 am after a full work day.

And before someone says it, yes, I know it's spelled with one s.

The OP isn't saying that the Squad AI should play itself, but rather that they should react to what's happening in the environment more intuitively, and at the very least, if you tell them to stay put, to frakkin' stay put, and stay in cover.

Well put. I disagree with the OP though, in his belief that GoW3 achieves this. I've seen both friend and enemy AI do some idiotic stuff. ie. standing beside enemies and doing nothing.

Your first statement is completely subjective, and I guess you won't be playing ME3 then, because it will probably sell a LOT, for its genre.

You sound like a wannabe hipster. Not a real hipster, of course, but one of the wannabes who think more=bad. Just sayin'.

That's the general opinion about a lot of things. I should of known it would be applied to video games as well.

Except it's more like "Oh, this game has great AI. (Gears of War 3 or any other game with great AI.) Could we, maybe, have some improvement from the Mass Effect 2 AI, BioWare? I mean, great AI makes the game more fun. Just look at this other good game. And remember, we're just asking for an improvement, not demanding."

Seriously, try again later when you can actually type something coherent.

And now you're attacking a strawman.  No one ever said a thing about it playing "exactly like" GOW.  ONE aspect of GoW, the squad AI, was said to be something that could be useful for the ME team to take a look at as a source of ideas for improving squad AI in ME3.

I bet a child could play Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 as well. Guess you won't be buying ME3 now huh?

I think that because the ME games have action as a major part of their gameplay, then it IS realistic to expect functional teammates. No one's asking for Einsteinian geniuses, i remember the Thane recruiting mission in ME2 where Miranda and Jacob kept dropping like flies because they were moving out of cover and doing other incredibly stupid things despite my issuing commands. Because of the pathetic AI in ME2, I cerainly would hope that in ME3 the devs finally manage to improve the AI enough so that my teammates finally behave like competent professionals.

That the GoW games are more action oriented is irrelevant to me - rather like your irrational hatred of action games at this point. The third GoW game evidently has some pretty decent AI based on what the OP says. If that's the case, then it can't hurt to look at it and try to learn from it.

If it's dumb, yes, it does.
Not to mention it's unfluence hurting other game series like resident evil trying to morph from what it was into a dumb shooter, I wonder who they were trying to imitate.. hmm
Back to topic, mass effect has room to improve but it's not gow material, don't splatter gow all over my mass effect plate thank you very much, I'm happy with my meal.
