Transformation into broodmother

First Day, they come and catch everyone.

Second Day, they beat us and eat some for meat.
Third Day, the men are all gnawed on again.
Fourth Day, we wait and fear for our fate.
Fifth Day, they return and it's another girl's turn.
Sixth Day, her screams we can hear in our dreams.
Seventh Day, she grew as in her mouth they spew.
Eighth Day, we hated as she was violated.
Ninth Day, she grins and devours her kin.
Now she does feast, as she's become the beast.

Then something about eating her husband's face and drinking his blood. It's quite creepy - what was Branka thinking! This must be the most unnerving part of the game.

I loved that part. Branka felt anti-climactic after that wool-gnawing poetess Hespith was done with her tale.

I concur, creepiest part of the game. Unfortunately, I had already seen the beast (and heard the rhyme) before playing, since Bioware had the Broodmother video on their site. I suppose it's my own fault for watching the thing, but still, I wish they had not released that video.

Hahaha. Indeed! Apparently only breasts attached to digusting monster blobs are acceptable.

Yes, very creepy. It's mostly why I killed Branka, actually. Couldn't bear the idea of letting her live after she did that even though I could see a strong case for keeping the anvil around.

Well, it's a good thing we get to kill Branka. I'd thrown her to the darkspawn if I could, so she could experience the cruelties she put her house through. Even though that would mean more genlocks... I loved the deep trenches, it made me shudder. Few games makes me shudder nowadays :)

The Deeps Roads in general was creepy. Just got worse once I got near the Broodmother. Though since I was playing a racial elf once I figured out it was a dwarf..he was very angry. (-slap- MAKING ME ALL SCARED FOR NO REASON! MIDGET!"

Yes, the broodmother was by far the most disturbing portion of the game for me. More for the implications than the actual creature itself. I mean, then I started thinking about all the women taken from the battlefield at Ostragar. Or the girls of Lothering. It's only by the Maker's grace that Leliana managed to escape such a fate. Most terrible.

Oddly, what it made me think was that after the blight was done, the Grey Wardens needed to make a serious commitment to the Legion of the Dead, and start burning out Darkspawn nests rather than just saying "yay, we won" and waiting for the next blight.. And all women in both groups need to be given a simple way to commit suicide if captured.

Agreed, I was wondering why the Wardens just sort of sit around waiting for another Blight after they finish one instead of trying to end it all.

Headphones? Should have heard them in 7.1 surround.

This was defiantly a highlight of the game for me. Hands down creepiest part. Plus I was genuinely horrified at how the Broodmothers were made and how Darkspawn came from them. Still really messed up when it comes to mind.

Agreed. After killing the Broodmother, i expected everything - but Branka sitting around as the sole survivor (for the best part of a year?) right between Broodmother and Anvil, doing nothing felt kinda wrong

It sounded like they do visit the Deep Roads, they're just so vast and filled with so many darkspawn it's tough to make headway. I mean the dwarven army has been pushing pretty hard at the darkspawn since they invaded and they've barely got anything secured. Plus their primary purpose is making sure the overworld is united to repel a blight, when the darkspawn actually have a leader and make an organized rush on the surface. Between blights the darkspawn seem to mostly just mill about mindlessly killing whoever they come across.

I agree that in terms of defeating the darkspawn for good, the best ending is probably securing aid from the new ruler for Orzammar. They really can't commit all that much though because there's still surface politics as well. And the dwarves probably wouldn't want to house an enormous human army.

Definitely completely awesome. That poem. *shivers* Ugh, puts a chill down my spine.

And yeah, the Wardens really ought to be down there if there's no Blight. Good point.

Actually I remember it being mentioned somewhere in the game, maybe the Codex, that the wardens do indeed go down and clear the 'nests' after a Blight. Or at least did at one time. I'm guessing it's a rather impossible task to find them all when you have cave systems and tunnels spanning an entire continent.

And beyond. I don't think anyone is really certain how far the tunnels extend nowadays.

It is worth to linger near Branka and see what all she mumbles to herself. I found that creepier then thebroodmother itself. I decided to kill her the moment I heard her say: I know what became of her. But it only meant endless supply of darkspawn to test the traps with.
Why couldn't my mage kill her with an area affecting spell??? I didn't mind what Oghen says. Branka had to die.

Somewhere, right now, hopefully VERY well hidden, there is a small fetish community devoted to the Brood Mother.
