Oddly, what it made me think was that after the blight was done, the Grey Wardens needed to make a serious commitment to the Legion of the Dead, and start burning out Darkspawn nests rather than just saying "yay, we won" and waiting for the next blight.. And all women in both groups need to be given a simple way to commit suicide if captured.

That's why I think Leliana's best ending is when she works at the behest of Queen Anora to investigate the Darkspawn and locate as many broodmothers as possible.

Somewhere, right now, hopefully VERY well hidden, there is a small fetish community devoted to the Brood Mother.

I geniunely, with all my heart, want you to die right now. In fact, I'm attempting to kill you with my mind as I type this.

Agreed, I was wondering why the Wardens just sort of sit around waiting for another Blight after they finish one instead of trying to end it all.

Actually I remember it being mentioned somewhere in the game, maybe the Codex, that the wardens do indeed go down and clear the 'nests' after a Blight. Or at least did at one time. I'm guessing it's a rather impossible task to find them all when you have cave systems and tunnels spanning an entire continent.

Well, Grey Wardens CAN sense them after all. Though I see your point about the sheer enormity of the task.

Some possible solutions:

-Have the mages cook up a nice plague that only affects darkspawn, then mass an army to clear out the survivors
-Deploy Sandal to annihilate the darkspawn. "Ka-me-ha-me-ENCHANTMENT!" *bloody remains fall to the floor*
-Block off any tunnel leading to the darkspawn's nests. The caves down there cannot provide an infinite supply of food, neither can they "recruit" new females if they can't reach the surface to raid.

Is it just me, or is this why there aren't (almost) any female Wardens?

Yes the Codex mentions that the Grey Wardens have gone down into the Deep Roads with the Legion (I actual found myself wanting to be part of the legion i wear the armour over the Blood Dragon) but they have rarely been succesful.

Im also wondering if the broodmothers are different for each race. The one we saw was a dwarven brood mother, what would a human or Qunari look like? (for those of you who didnt check the codex, dwarven brood mothers produce Genlocks, human brood mothers make Herlocks and Qunari make Ogres)

Yes, the broodmother was by far the most disturbing portion of the game for me. More for the implications than the actual creature itself. I mean, then I started thinking about all the women taken from the battlefield at Ostragar. Or the girls of Lothering. It's only by the Maker's grace that Leliana managed to escape such a fate. Most terrible.

Leliana the Broodmother! *cackle* That would've been most precious..

i love this section of lore... although i must agree that it seems strange the grey wardens haven't tried to end it or tell women to die for the greater good

i think it's rad how each race produce different darkspawn... it makes me think about "what if" broodmother offspring..

like a werewolf broodmother? an undead broodmother(female zombie)? halfling broodmothers? bronto broodmothers? spider broodmothers? the animals probably wouldn't work...but who knows

If you think about it, the Broodmother looks like a fat man with multiple moobs. I just hope more information about the darkspawn will be revealed in the expansion. No one really knows where the darkspawn comes from or how the first broodmother came about. Those Tevinter blood mages must have done something really nasty to create such abominations.

This is - after the Giant "Creepy Crawler" Spiders - the creepiest part of the whole game.

Yes Branka felt anti-climactic. She is very detestable. And it shopuldn't have been this way. They should have shown a Branka that has some regret in her, that is trying to justify her actions more amiably. Instead she doesn't show a hint of regret.

A great person can make sacrifices. But a great person should not underestimate what he / she sacrificed.

I personally ended up supporting Branka because I thought the anvil was too valuable to be destroyed. But Branka remains the most detestable person in the game and it's a shame really. They could have made her a more complex individual. Willing to make mecessary sacrifices, but being torn by them.

No offense, but if there is one, it'\\s definately run by the Japanese.

Well, KnightofPhoenix, her mind seemed broken to me, so maybe it did affect her.

I think the reason this isn't common knowledge is that prior to this, no one knew where darkspawn came from. The codex implies this was a new discovery, and it makes sense--even if Dwarves or Grey Wardens had run into Broodmothers before, they wouldn't have known what they were without someone there to explain it to them, which is a highly unlikely situation. You only found out through a series of extraordinary circumstances, after all.

Imo the discovery of where darkspawn come from could be one of the greatest triumphs against the Blight in the game, even beyond killing Archdemon #4 (and three to go). Either restrict females from travelling in the Deep Roads or make sure they know to off themselves, and hunt down living broodmothers and exterminate them. No females captured, no new darkspawn.

Would her darkspawn offspring inherit the same annoying tendancy to burst into song?

Liked this part a lot, it was effectively creepy. I especially liked that you heard the rhyme through a long, empty tunnel after the constant fighting across the bridge and around the gate.

My favorite part of the whole section (maybe the whole game) was the Shrine of the Legion, though. After all that intense darkspawn fighting earlier, and nearing the heart of the darkspawn's corruption, there's the quiet reminder of the dwarfs constant Churchillian resistance against overwhelming odds. (As a dwarf noble PC, I found particularly affecting.) It's too bad I can't get the Key of the Legion without aggro'ing those ghosts.

This was easily the rhyme that made this game go from extraordinary and went to absolutely amazing. I was totally not expecting this(I avoided all videos and such because I wanted this game to surprise me and it did!). The entire sequence of events, the use of audio, the voice acting and the animators/choreographers/level designers did a hell of a job with this bit.

I was a little irritated I couldn't do anything to help Hespith even if it means putting her out of her misery. Kind of nagged me that I just went straight back to orz instead of going back to look for her but I will next time around.

I think Branka is perfect. She took advantage of her status and she used her people like lemmings. She is a paragon. She has the political power to choose who rules the whole damned dwarven kingdom. I totally disagree with people who say she should have showed some sort of regret and say that adds complexity to the character. Oh dear the character is having self vs. self issues, this makes them have depth! No. These are dwarves. And if it's one thing dwarves do not do is regret anything. Oghren being a perfect shining example.

"I *am* your Paragon..." = "You made me this." ('you' being the dwarven people.)

You really get the impression that Branka wasn't like this before she was made paragon (Oghren has a couple of lines to that effect), but the experience of being one really ruined her and corrupted her. As Sten says in the epilogue, the Qunari never declare anyone living an ata'qun (or w/e) because they would be too proud. (I think of Loghain as the same way...)

Doubtful, there seem to be plenty in other regions and in the past.
It's just a kind of quirk in the present I suppose. Besides a female warden would be more likely to die vs. darkspawn than a female soldier or civilian, which would be the preferable outcome, I suspect.
