Personally, it detracted from multiple runs in ME2. I was ready to jump in, play and explore, but I forgot: I have to get X amount of minerals - every. God. Damn. Time.
I'm not sure what Bioware's plan is when they bring it back in ME3, but I hope they realize this negative aspect..
Was anyone else turned off by Planet Scanning... yeah I think most people were Bioware....

Bioware knows that it was basically universally reviled.

theyve implemented enemy protections for planets called planet protections. so no more scanning without shooting off a laer of protections. they also changed the way the probes work so you can only have 5 at a time instead of 30. it makes the game more tactical that way because a limited supply adds tension and tactics!
i mean how is the best game ever made NOT going to have planet scanning in it? thatd be like the best meal ever made not having bacon in it.

For Mass Effect 2 it was a easy fix to just use Gibbed save editor, but Bioware realized that people really hated it so they'll do something so it won't be boring.

I never thought it was that bad once the update came.
It was better than driving the Mako on generic landscape #51 with the physics of a beach ball.

I found it to be quite relaxing. So no, it wasn't universally hated. I also never had an issue with the Mako, but a bunch of complainers made Bioware do away with my little space buggy, so now we have scanning...deal with it.

You know, it'd be awesome if we could just buy upgrades with credits. That would work pretty well.

I didn't mind it. In the beginning it was kind of tedious, but it got better once the speed upgrade was researched.
Better than the Mako, at least.

And if you run out of probes you have to mine the minerals by hand with a pickaxe a shovel and a bucket oh and you can't mod yourself out of it otherwise you'll get a critical mission failure.

Mako exploration > Planet scanning

i like mako and planet scanning, but i understand that i am a minority. I liked the me1 idea to land on planets and explore them, the problem was ugly mako control and insane cliffs to climb, but the idea was good and i missed it in me2.
I hope that m3 has an exploration feature similar to m1 but better implemented (overlord dlc can be a good exaple) and a scanning feature for planets you can't land on.

I liked the mako and planet scanning also, but I usually did each main system as I went to do a mission I didnt go to every planet and strip mine
However I didn't really like the hover tank or the missions that were made for it so I don't even play the overlord dlc anymore on my playthough's

I said it back in ME2: the best way to collect resources, is if it comes naturaly through the gameplay, as in you find them as you go along on missions. Not if you're making it into a chore...
Think about it, you're trying to save galactic civilazation from the reapers, with billions of lives on the line, how can you justify this mining excavations? You know what I would do: "Hi, I'm commander Shepard! I'm using my authority as a spectre to commandeer all of your iridium! You'll thank me later, when you're not dead!"

The only thing that made planet scanning bearable was the Galaxy Map music going along with it.

Since its optimization, I haven't really had that much trouble with it. Still, I would have preferred if the game wasn't vitally dependent on it.
