I started using the save editor after my first playthrough, just to load up on resources and credits.

Didn't mind planet scanning, takes me 15 minutes scanning per playthrough to get all minerals I need. So I'm really perplexed about the people finding it an unbearable chore. Personally I found the hacking minigames far more tiresome on repeat playthroughs.

Lol...it's pointless, why would you want it in the game?

More pointless then hacking minigames? picking up minerals from caches on missions? shooting down mooks?
I can use Gibbed to give me all the minerals I need sure. but that makes picking up minerals on missions pointless, something that breaks the 4th wall for me. A big part of an RPG is gathering resources to prioritize upgrades. with unlimited resources the research feature becomes pointless as well.
Since minerals are there in abundance, and are so easy to gather I chose to create my own limitations, like only probing a planet once. Or only probing good planets and above once. This makes mineralscanning more interesting since it's exciting to find a really big node. I also edit away the 300000 starting credits to force me to prioritize upgrades, but even then I  have everything by the end of the game.

hacking minigames don't take more than a few seconds to complete. I still also pick up minerals...I just can't leave any loot behind. I don't understand how that breaks the 4th wall at all either. Say what you will RPG =roleplaying not gathering resources. Everything else like mining, shooting down moos are just used to draw us in. Well maybe not mining.

I can't understand to this day what people had against planet scanning. I for one liked it, and it wasn't mandatory. It was a nice change of pace and it was quite relaxing.

Seems like i was one of the few that didn't mind those planet scaning.

I don't know for console version but on computer, even before the patch it was fast, i mean, i just need a few minutes to get 80k of each ressource (exept element 0), just doing it twice for the whole game, took me what... 20 or 25 minute scaning for more than a 30 hours games ?

My be scanning would have been better if it was not a graphic range on the side that show how high the ressurces is, but using the scan itself as kind of telescope observing the planet and showing different masse of ressources in different color.
With this kind of scanning, they could have included some bonus from crached ship or ruined city with cash, codex on aliens civilisation, new fish for our cabine or even some mode.

I mean, making the scanning more like a treasure hunting mini games.

I didn't mind scanning on my first playthrough, but by the third I absolutely hated it and just started cheating minerals. It kills replayability (at least for myself).

I concur, first time playthrough was alright, but replays sucked because of scanning. The new game + boost helps, but it doesn't put much of a dent in.

'Cept for the 50000 units of eezo that kinda helped. But yea all the other resources ran out fast especially the platinum. Wish instead of planet scanning we could just purchase all upgrades instead since the style of spoils may go back to ME1 so money for every kill.

didn't like the mako driving myself, perhaps if it handled terrain better or went faster......

also don't do much mining....i'll get the star charts for the element rich planets and do a bit right at the start of the game to build up a bit of a cushion, but after that, not much....

i'd really just prefer that sort of element gets explained away.....I.E. you have your SPECTRE/Naval status back and resources of the council/Alliance.....or....there's not enough effing time for mining while you are trying to save the galaxy and upgrading your ship and weapons is done through your sidequests....

I really didn't mind the scanning, I especially liked reading about the planets themselves.

Same here i like reading more then scanning and i dont see what the fuss is about i played on Xbox and it was fine all you gotta do is scan planets outside the system of mass realy and ur good to go most rich planets give you like 20-40K rescources anyways. Get Marinda and thanes upgrade and ur set.

I think the scanning should stay inplace what they should do is set up a survival senario. You drop a single probe on the planet and you land. Once landed (much like the side mission where you stop the Heavy mecs from destorying those crates) keep fighting till you die(instead of dieing it goes land team cirtically wounded we are getting out of here). As the duration goes on you gain more resouces(multipliers increase) but the enemies also increase in power. Immigine trying to hold your mining outpost with 10 Vorcha flamethrowers 15 Krogens and 5 Varren darting round. It would be complete insanity(if and ur like me and play on that game mode well
kudos to usB)). Also after finishing a mission you sould get X amount of resources on top of what you.

Salarians pledge allegince to the war effort. They will provide us XXX of XXX each mining period(being a mission)
That way you can build a TON of resouces also it be nice if you could sell them for credits(being able to have people on the normady use them to make ammo/med-gels would be a nice touch to)

I just found it became tedious just like exploring planets with the Mako. I think with refinement and a more balanced use of resources it would have been better, for I always seemed to be platinum starved and rich with every other resource.

Ditto Sanunes i was always scraping the bottom for it they might wanna increase how much can be harvested...

and

THERE WAS WAY TO MUCH E-ZO!!!!

also (coughs) allow us to sell any extra resources for credits so we can buy upgrades n what not

I thought the scanning was fun myself.
Liked trying to find the best spots to scan in an area.

I disliked Planet scanning before the update. Now I enjoy just depleting planets because its easier and less time consuming than before.

Needed improvement, but was definitely enjoyable to some extent. I'm sure that minigame will be better in ME3.

To me, it just never made sense. I'm harvesting plutonium on the planet's surface to build a better pistol?? Huh?? WIth that said, after they modified the process (bigger retinale, faster), it wasn't nearly as painful.

So... you think the scanning should stay in place... by being something completely and totally different?

It sounds like a cool idea. Its just a lot more action packed and exciting than dragging a cursor over a rotating ball and hitting the right trigger a billion times.

I hated the implementation of planet scanning in ME2. On top of that I didn't really see the point of the other mini-games as they are immersion breaking. After all if you have Kasumi or Tali along why should you have to play a hacking mini-game?? Just let me bypass the junk and let me get to the story or the action or whatever "good stuff" is just around the corner.

If there must be planet scanning the things I'd like to see are:
-- Gibbed friendly save files :)
-- New Game Plus should save all upgrades [Shep, Weapons, Ship, etc.] you already have and just mark them as "found" so you don't have to find them again [or can't find them again ...]
-- Scanning for MINERALS would be a waste of time as they should be provided by Council, Alliance, Shadow Broker or someone else. Scanning a planet for a mission, some artifact that may help, etc. seems like a reasonable idea. Maybe you could detect that there is an anomaly instantly then you could play a quick mini game to see if you can find the source of the anomaly???

I never had any problems with the planet scanning. Sure, it wasn't the most thrilling aspect of the game, but it made for a pleasant break from all the shooting people in the face.

And what makes you think that you should voice your unpopular opinion here?

After the optimization patch (which I believe was a MAJOR fan service and olive branch on Bioware's part), I didn't really have a problem with it. It was only the occasional "Platinum runs" I made that got old :P

I'm not saying they should remove the feature altogether, because I really did like the idea, I just think it was poorly executed. They could easily build on what they currently have and use it for more than just mining and the "beacon" location.

Nah, Mako was more fun than scanning!
I especially hated the plastic ball look of the planets. They seriously have to improve on the galaxy map in ME3 (or just go back to ME1 style). No more plastic balls please!
