I don't know if this has been brought up before but, looking at the Deft Hands talent tree dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue it sounds like being a rogue gives you at least the "basic" talent to disable locks, and deft hands just makes you more proficient. Is this true? Or do you need Deft Hands to disable locks?
Deft Hands...worth it?

You need at least a point in it to be able to open locked chests at all. The more points you put into it the more advanced chests you'll be able to open.

From what I've read from some people who have managed to play the game so far, they specifically mentioned that they had to leave behind many locked chests because they had not bothered to bring a rogue along. They also mentioned that the difficulty of the chests increased rather rapidly through granted they may have been in a more difficult area for their level at the time.

Oh well that's kind of disappointing, it seems both rogues and maxed out lock-picking skills are "encouraged".
