 So the only option you are left with is killing the AY.. as you would rather do that than have them living in relative solitude and comfort; I do think you are championing the cause of freedom beyond its means if you think that the humane thing to do if something can't be totally free is to just kill it

 My overall point, as you chose to echo in the previous page, is that we do not know enough for certain about the AY condition; whereas I assume the Asari response is appropriately matched to the AY' state, you assume it is an overreaction

 Which is where the application of this discussion in-game falls apart.. though I must admit I do still find the idea that it is better to kill a sentient being than to compromise its freedom as peculiar enough to be interesting

I understand you point. But it's not the same case.The dlc Arrival is just the case your talikng about. In extemes you may let innocent people die so you can survive and even many other people to servive.... What your really saying you would never let innocent people die for your own pleasure, reguardless if the pleasure is from their deaths or your want for pleasure cases their deaths

That is what she does.   Because she has no reason to believe that mind melding would not kill Shepard.

If Morinth is certain to be killed soon after killing Shep, then that just shows how little control she has over her additiction.

 Exactly.. D. Kain is suggesting that the only reason Morinth starting 'melding' is because she needed the additional strength in order to not be returned to isolation

 As though that makes it in any way morally acceptable

 If that were the case, then yes it would mean that her actions aren't proof that AY are 'guaranteed' to kill when in a population. As her initial actions would not be the result of an addictive condition, but of her choices. But that neither proves that the AY-isolation-program is wrong (just because her first actions don't prove the AY condition is determined, at the same time they don't prove they aren't determined) nor does it morally absolve Morinth

 So what is the point being made?

Morinth is different. Shepard kills for the greater good. Morinth is the exact opposite. Everything she has done is for selfish reasons. I will not doubt Shepard has a bigger kill count but has Shep kept the galaxy safer? Yes. The actions in Arrival was sacrificing mostly innocents for the rest of the Galaxy to have some time to prepare. Morinth however kills for her pleasure. The pleasure can be from the meld but it still kills people there is no sugar coating it.

Well the difference to MY Shep (can't speak for all) is that my Shep doesn't kill when there is a choice. However, Arrival doesn't give you a choice which is a small wink from Bioware to tell us, there wasn't a choice. Mass exodus of 300.000 Batarians or of the whole galaxy. Not much of a choice really, because the Batarians would have died anyway.

I was not comparing Shepard to Mornith... I was just commenting on the extemes of the comment above. He say He would never let people die so he can live, which in mostcasesis fall. If you were hinding forma group that wants to kill you and you see someone in the open in danger to be killed who is a stranger who is about to be notice by the group that is killing people and you could save that person by destracting that group who is kill but you can save yourself by letting that group kill that person...What would you do?

Morniths' case is just killing so she can get pleasure. That is much different from sacrificing lives to save your own.

I am saddened that I skipped from page 19 or so to page 56 and D. Kain seems to still be arguing the same points.

I would offer to refute his "arguments" but I imagine anything I would have said was already covered in the 30+ pages I skipped and that he simply ignored or misunderstood those refutations.
