To date I am yet to see this shield drop. There is clearly a random element to her loot tables; after 50 or 60 kills there is the stock standard Warden Commander's gear + "random" loot, which can be anything from coin to potions, to salves, to minor weaponry and armour. It could be the case that the Warden Commander's Shield is in-fact one of these randomly generated sundry items. It could be the case that it is level dependant; that the random items are variables based on the player level. It could be that there is some specific dialogue options that you need to progress though to make the shield spawn on Sophia. It could be that Sophia's loot tables are indeed bugged. It could be any combination of the above.

What I do know is that I am yet to see this shield. There is evidence of it existing, yet I can not for the life of me get it to drop.

Further to my last, if anyone proficient with the devtoolkit could take a quick look at where and how this shield drops, you'd have my eternal gratitude.

I just got the shield to drop, in my play through I had Sophia seal the veil before I even went to the tower and then I let the mage continue his studies, I was attacked upon my return and it took about 40 reloads to finally get her to drop the shield.

I figured she just dropped it because I had so many Shield talents, since it was the first she'd dropped it in maybe 2 other play throughs.

Fwiw, on my first playthrough (normal) It dropped for me and it struck me as odd because it wasn't leveled like the warden gear (it was higher tier). It did not drop for me on my NM playthrough.

If it matters I killed her outright both times, no deals. The first character, who got the shield, was a shield warrior (think he was a templar already), the second a DW assassin rogue.

Ok,

So after reloading my earlier save to re-do the Wardens' Keep DLC this is what I've concluded; after 70-90 kills, it is very low random drop. The drop chance has nothing to do with dialogue options or how you complete the DLC, it is simply a random drop that may occur when you kill Sophia Dryden. The shield will drop in addition to her standard loot table which includes the Warden Commander Armor, the Warden Commanders Gloves, the Warden Commander Boots and one other random sundry item like a potion or an injury kit.

It’s that simple. Who ever started the myth of dialogue options spawning the shield in her loot table was wrong; it is simply a very low random drop-chance item. I have no idea what this drop chance is or how it is calculated. So, to those of you still wondering how to get the shield – don’t bother with all the “take three steps to the right, touch your toes, spin to the left and clap twice before killing her” fables; they are untrue. The only thing that will net you this shield is perseverance.

At least fade wall from gaxkang has higher chance of drop. I would really hate to reload 50-70 times for fade wall. Takes hell of alot more time to kill gaxkang.

Got the shield on the 6th kill from Sophia.

Took about 6 kills to get Fade Wall off Gaxkang as well.

Random is random but totally worth it for the stats on both shields when you reach that part of the game.

Still trying. Godammit. Whomever came up with the retarded idea of incorporating random distribution of unique items in a Bioware RPG should be shot for graduating from the Blizzard University of Loot Distribution.

For a single-player game this is indeed a bad idea. At least a certain level of consistency should be present, not one time you get some nice items and the next you get... 10 silver.

Not that I had that issue on Sophia, but just overall of the entire system.

I agree. If this was a game where creatures respawned then valuable items could be made to drop only rarely, but given that you only have one shot at it it should drop consistently.

I can independently confirm the shield does exist.

It took me approx. 100 sophia kills on nightmare to force it to drop (it was horrifying to have to kill her so many times)

I'm not claiming anything by saying this, but I simply could not get it to drop on normal difficulty. I suspect nightmare gives the dice more chance for it to drop bc of the greater risk/difficulty etc.

it is called:

WARDEN TOWER SHIELD (Silverite) Tier 6
38 str req
6 defense
+3 willpower
+6 defense
+1 stam regen in combat

If you continue to kill her (may take several hours of loading and killing) You can get it to drop. But be prepared for a massive load/kill marathon it's no joke I was hurting by the time I got it.

Bioware wtf? really guys? ....

Random loot in a solo player RPG is as about as far retardness can get.

AGREED,

Do you HAVE to put it on nightmare to get it to drop?

If so, do you have to put it on nightmare to get the fade wall from Gaxkang?

It's definitely random, but fortunately, it only took me four attempts before the shield dropped for me. Score!

As for the Fade Wall, I have no idea, but I think it's a random drop as well since I don't remember seeing it when I killed Gaxkang in my first playthrough.

I don't know if Nightmare is required, but I believe it loads the dice a bit more so it helps you have to kill her fewer times to get the shield.

No you don't. As far as I'm aware, and as far as I've seen, difficulty has nothing to do with its drop chance or its quality. I did roughly 30-50 kills on each difficulty before I actually had the shield drop, and of all difficulties, it dropped on normal in the end. Again; I can't confirm this for certain. I have no hard data aside my own personal testing to base this off. If anyone could pull apart Wardens' Keep DLC and actually find the trigger for this shield, it'd be awesome, but as I've said I think it's just a very low random drop chance.

i'm not sure about this, but I have better chance of getting the shield when you allow Sophia to perform the ritual then kill her.

Fade wall dropped for me on second playthrough. Normal difficulty.

Are there any other random loot drops we know of currently?

We need to get together and make a list of known npc's that have a random drop. Guaranteed drops are no big deal, everybody can get them unless they go out of their way to avoid it. But drops such as this shield, and the Fade Wall off of the ol' Demilich Gaxxkang are things that I've missed on two play throughs, simply because I did not know they existed (qq for not trolling forums enough).

If we could get a list, stickied perhaps, just letting people know what bosses drop which loot randomly, it would allow people to see which bosses they should or should not farm.

I am with most of ya here getting that shield to drop has been the bane of my existence and i have 6 completed plays now, and not once have i got it. This last time run number 7 i spent about 4 hours reloading and reloading to see if i can get it to drop, nada. I am seriously considering going on the the mod forums and whine a bit to see if one of the talented few will take pity on us and make a mod to force it into inventory.

Random drops in a single player RPG is about the dumbest idea ever.
