It's not called the "Warden Commander Shield", I believe in my inventory it was just called "Heavy Metal Shield" or some such, but was clearly the one she was using, with the griffon symbol. Also to my knowledge it's not a random drop, I've got it every time I've killed her.

It's called Warden Tower Shield.

And it is a random drop. I had to kill her over 80 times to get it. I first did it about 50, and then I resorted to "runscript killallhostiles" and kept reloading.

Random loot of unique pieces of gear in a singleplayer RPG is a horrible, horrible idea on so many levels.

We need to get together and make a list of known npc's that have a random drop. Guaranteed drops are no big deal, everybody can get them unless they go out of their way to avoid it. But drops such as this shield, and the Fade Wall off of the ol' Demilich Gaxxkang are things that I've missed on two play throughs, simply because I did not know they existed (qq for not trolling forums enough).

If we could get a list, stickied perhaps, just letting people know what bosses drop which loot randomly, it would allow people to see which bosses they should or should not farm.

Right now, it appears that it's only Gaxkang and Sophia that has random unique loot, in the form of Fade Wall and Warden Tower Shield.

Otherwise, I think we would've at least seen another thread on the other stuff.

Just the two eh? Than thats no big deal. Ironic that they are both shields, as in my first playthrough, I struggled, unsuccessfully, to find a better shield than Eamon's, and here they both are :P.

Is there a way to add it into your inventory via the toolset? If yes, I'd like to know how since I'm 10hours away from this moment.

From what I've read, it's very difficult for people to pull apart DLC with the toolset. We may be waiting a while.

Maybe if you have the item on a save file then you can copy it over a new game file?

You guys who want to cheese up a way to get the shield, the easiest way is to just make it via the Winter's Forge project. It's damn simple and you can even put the gryphon heraldry on it. Quite nice. No puttering around with the toolset.

LOL reloaded a safe earlier and put the shield in my later game inventory

You just need to copy the information from a save where you already have the shield over a new one (inside party, backpack) then it will appear in your game. enjoy

On Xbox360, I killed Sophia 108 times total, on varying difficulty levels from Casual to Nightmare, with NO success. I was level 8, Arcane Warrior along with Alistair, Morrigan, and Leliana in my party. I even had saved games in 2 places: at the first encounter with her, and later after she sealed the Veil.

I have noticed that she'll drop anywhere from 4 to 7 items at once, 3 of which are always her armor. The rest have been are combination of health pots, lyrium pots, spirit shards, runes, gems, flame/frost coatings, coin, and rarely Warden's Longsword.

This is my second playthrough of the game, and unless a 360 user confirms it drops on that console, I'd think there's a bug in the 360 version that omits the shield from her drop pool.

pretty sure ive seen 360 folks saying they've got it, but if not its more likely you got a bug FIX. this shield has the EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION as duncan's shield. as in, saying you found it in a warehouse and whatnot. i'm 99% sure it was never meant to drop.

Those of you who aren't getting the shield are just pussing out and not killing her enough.

I'm telling you it is hardcore rare, as in HOURS of loading/kills.

It personally took me over 100+ kills on my first try. Then I tried again and got it after like 50 kills.

Anyway, if you are super unlucky, you might have to kill her 200 times you just have to be committed and not give up no matter how long it takes. Perseverance.

Oh one last thing: I read some guy killed her for 8 hrs and didnt get it. If it takes you that long you probably aren't being very efficient. You need to kill her fast, loot the body, then reload should take you about 1 minute total. Also you might want to create new saves every half hour or so.

I have gotten it on xbox on multiple characters.

I'm going to take that as an insult, because that was me. I said I killed her for 8hours, did I specify how many times she was killed? So how do you draw the conclusion that I'm not being efficient? I killed her over 450 times, and I still don't have the shield. So eat those words. <_<

This isn't an MMO people. It's a waste of time to kill her hundreds of times.

What does having one out of two Grey Warden shields in the entire game have to do with being an MMO or not?

Id be more impress if it was a good looking metal round shield like the one from the sacred ashs trailer, and not just the same generic shield with better stats!. =/

DIfficulty does not matter. I've seen it drop in two games, once on Easy, again on Normal difficulty. I have read (though I do not swear by this) that dialog options affect what she can drop. In both cases in which she dropped the shield, I had sided with her, killed Avernus, returned to Sofia, dispatched the demons (saved game) then killed her. The first time it dropped on the 2nd try. The second time it took about 20-30 reloads, but the quest path was the same (not the dialog options that make her hostile). I don't know if you can get the shield from her if you attack her on sight, as I never saw it drop in the 10 or 12 times I tried that approach.

If you side with her and then kill her after killing Avernus and the demons, she will eventually drop it.

And yes, it is very dumb to make this such a rare drop in a single player RPG.

In the 360 version, I bought a large metal round shield (dragonbone) from the smith at Soldier's Peak and it was identical to the shield in the sacred ashes trailer. It was black and had the golden griffon heraldry. It wasn't good but it looks cool. :)

I can tell all of you with absolute certainty that dialog options have no effect on what she drops whatsoever.

You can walk into the room, attack and kill her on sight, and get the shield - I have personally done it three times by killing her on sight. (I make my save game standing in her room, just out of range of her automatic dialog trigger and kill her fast then reload)

Haha. Ouch! 450 times that's brutal. You are either really unlucky or need to try using a different save.

Game difficulty settings do not change the shields very low drop chance.

Yeah I didn't read every single post but read some after starting to try

I'm glad difficulty doesn't matter , cause she drops dead about 10X faster on casual than on nightmare
