Yes, the very low drop rate kinda ruins the DLC - everything is going so well until the last battle lol. A drop rate of 25% would have been fine.

If I want to kill a boss 27 times to never even see a particular item I want, I'll play WoW.
*Reminisces about never seeing a Betrayer of Humanity drop.*

I've had Sophia's shield drop two or three times on normal difficulty. I don't reload and rekill for random drops- I just take what I get and roll on. It's a pretty good shield, though.
I've only picked up the Fade Wall shield once. I was pretty psyched because I was playing as a warrior that maxed out both the DW and Shield talent trees, so for those times when he's using his shield the Fade Wall is a great one.

IMO, items like the Tower Shield or Fade Wall shouldn't be random drops.

kinda sad. after many times of reloading trying to get the shield, the shield cannot transfer to Awakening :\\

Wow, this is the most stupidest thing I've ever heard. A utterly Random drop in a single player game? Whoever thought of that idea should be SHOT. Yes, they should, its a really hairbrain idea. I've been through the game several times and I've never seen this shield (or Fade wall) much less heard of them.
Brilliant Bioware, this isnt WOW.

Ok, i think the most easiest way to get the shield is through the command console.
1st, install the additem mod
Make console commands visible is also a mod I recommend
2nd, Input the command line for the shield: runscript additem gwb_im_arm_shd_twr_wdn1.uti 1
If you want Avernus' Robe w/o killing him: runscript additem gwb_im_cth_mag_wdn1.uti 1
Note: gwb is for Warden's Keep.

Forgive the simple question - but by "reload," do you have to reload the area that she's in, as in before the battle started, or can you just load any save while she is still alive and re-kill her?

I've gotten the shield like 3 times in my last playthroughs
I don't get why they put items there if you only have like a freaking 5% chance of getting it
really stupid idea if you ask me
Anyways the shield is not worth the reload
There are way better shields to get later in the game

I like the shield, as it is supposedly the same as Duncan's. But I have only seen it appear once over the course of more than a dozen Wardens, and several attempts per encounter.
Guess I will stick with Stealing from Alistair....

I rarely have more than 1 S&S Warrior (Alistair, usually), so I don't usually bother getting this (only bothered once). Since it's the same as Duncan's Shield, in everything, and that is well... considerably easier to get, I just go with that. Or Fade Wall. Also I have the Bulwark of the True King DLC Shield.

I am trying to get the Warden Tower Shield off of Sophia now...it is frustrating. I had similar luck on my Fade Wall drop rate I tried nightmare, etc; funny thing is, I accidentally left it on easy one time and the Fade Wall dropped lol
As the other gent asked though - do you need to just reload the save or do you need to go do a save that reloads that entire area?!?

Played through Soldier's Peak a million times and she's never dropped it. It has the same stats as Duncan's Shield that you can pick up in Denerim though.

I guess I got lucky. I was planning to have a save ready to keep trying until it dropped - then I got it on the first try.
I can't believe the drop rate is that terrible. Making it so low just adds to frustration, it doesn't add anything positive to the game.

I have yet to obtain the shield after about 4 hours of straight work. I have been doing it wrong I believe. I tried to cheat and save RIGHT after I killed her. Little did I know, drops are determined RIGHT after the enemy dies, not when the option to pick up is there. For those who are trying to get both sets. You can't! You 1 full set (the one you decide to kill afterwards[3items]) and the armor of the one you killed first. No text cycling here to increase chances.
Know this post is late but after DA2 I felt like playing it yet again.

Has there been any change to this item's drop rate in one of the patches since these last posts? I've now been playing this fight for countless hours and, obviously, haven't seen one drop!

It actually takes forever, but if you have the right party you can kill her in a matter of seconds. I have a main character mage, but if you don't have Morrigan and Wynne in your party. Make sure Morrigan has cone of cold. Save right after the talk so you don't have to keep watching it (or you will see it a lot) position Morrigan so shes facing Sophia with Wynne behind you. Its best that you have this position before you save so you don't have to replace them each time. First thing pause have Morrigan use cone of cold on Sophia. Then don't un-pause but go to Wynne. Have her cast stone-fist at the same time as Morrigan's cone of cold. Since Morrigan is in front of Wynne, Sophia will freeze and a second later will be shattered by Wynne's stone-fist. Worked for me at least.

Sophia is only an elite, she isn't boss ranked. Mark of death, vulnerability hex, etc all last for quite a while when cast on her.
