Also, I recall seeing a list of all this stuff somewhere on this board, and was thinking it would have been stickied. Where did it end up?

Also... glad to hear it's in the Drifter's Cache. I read that it was in the Trenches and I scoured that place top to bottom looking for it, and thought I had missed it or sold it.
Anyhoo... off to Carridan's Cross.

I must dispute: There IS a Merchant in Dust Town. He's not all that hard to find; there's only three doors. Two for quests, and the last opens into a Merchant's Shop.
Alright, I'll check again. And what about the Drifter's Cache? Still not sure what "completing the drifter's cache" even means. Thanks in advance.

It's a quest out in the Deep Roads -- I think it's all in Caridin's Cross. Check the rubble carefully is all I will say.

The Gloves are recieved by completing the Drifter's Cache... There's also the matter of the helmet, Duty which is not very easy to come by unless you happen to adventure with the Mabari all of the time. But even if he wasn't with you at the time you can return with him to the Anvil of the Void and have him fetch it.
He'll find the helm anywhere in the deep roads, not just the anvil. As an aside, Armor of Divine Will can also be used to get the set bonus instead of the Effort chest.

I usually give Divine Will to Alastair, along with the Griffon helm and the gloves and boots of Diligence.

Actually, I take that back. Divine Will is crap, because it costs almost twice as much as the vastly superior Knight Commander's Plate available outside Orzammar instead of in the deep roads.

On the positive side, all the exploring won me Topsider's blade, which is a pretty nice sword for my DW warrior.

Ok, I officially give up. Effort isn't worth this. Juggernaut is probably better for my DW Warrior and Wade's Superior Dragonscale was going to replace it anyway. Nothing is worth this much trouble. I found all four freakin' rock piles. I found the Ogre and killed him. There's nothing there. I've taken your advice, a guide's advice, and the internet's advice, all three differing slightly, and all three failing to get me the gauntlets. Every other decent armor set in this game is easier to get, and most of them are better than effort. Jeeze.

I just ran around Cairidin's Cross holding tab, after a couple raockpiles I would have missed otherwise, it added a quest entry, and marked the cache on the map.

"Duty" is considered the matching set helmet to the Effort Armor set... but doesn't fit it's style at all, shape, color and shine (playing on PC).
So either it looks awful with set bonus or allright (combined with Warden helmet for example) but without set bonus. Why does it always have to be this way...

Oh, come on. It's not that hard to get the armor set! In Caradin's cross, just explore the whole area until you find a pile of rubble. This will activate The Drifter's Cache. Once you complete the quest, you get Effort's Gloves. The rest are easy to get. Effort's Boots can be purchased from the merchant Alimar in Dust Town for 8 gold. Effort's helmet, Duty, can be found if you ask your dog if he see's anything in the Anvil of the Void , Ortan Thaig or Caridin's Cross. If you don't have the dog in your party, you can change party members anywhere in Orzammar.
It doesn't mark rubble piles on your map. One of them is behind a rock formation that looks like it's the end of the map already, and there's no "quest arrow" that highlights them when you walk by. Pretty much every other armor set is easier to get. Wades? You get enough drake scales just doing the main quest. You get the dragon scale by killing the high dragon. Juggernaut? In a room that's pretty hard to miss. The puzzle to unlock the door is pretty easy. There's only about 5 things you can do. Do all five and eventually you'll unlock the door. It's pretty obvious you want to unlock that door. The rest of it is just by touching stones, only one of them you wouldn't run into just by doing the main quests. And once you have 2/4 pieces from touching a gravestone, you'll realize, umm, I guess I have to find another grave stone.
All easier to get if you don't have a guide ready. On my current save I've touched three rubble piles. I can't touch the fourth, and it's "darker" than the other three were which leads me to conclude I already touched it. I found the Ogre, I killed him, I went into the back room, and there's no chest near a pool or anything I can activate or touch or grab or otherwise click with a mouse.
And, excuse me, but who the hell brings Dog on quests? Very few of us. And who remembers to ask him to find something every time? Very few of us. So again, assuming you DON'T have a guide handy or haven't gone on the internet to check, Effort is by far the hardest set to get. Not to mention, it's not exactly obvious that "duty" completes the armor set. Not only does it not match the rest of the set, it has a different name.

Well, Drifter's Cache is annoying, but it's certainly doable. The description for any Effort armor tells you that Duty is part of the set. And like I said, simply change party members in Orzammar. It's annoying, but not difficult once you know how to do it.

You get the boots from a merchant in either a Dust Town or in Commons, can't recall now but you can't really miss them, check all vendors and you'll get them.
You get the helmet if you have the dog with you, you can get it in Caridin's Cross or Aeducan Thaig, simply tell your dog to find something interesting. May have to tell to dog few times but he'll bring it soon enough,
You get the gloves upon completing Crossroad Drifters quests from the hidden stash, which appears behind the Ogre Alpha location once the quest is completed (well, once you've found all 4 rubble locations).
And final piece, the chest piece, will be on Broodmother but ONLY if you've completed the Crossroad Drifters quest, if you haven't - no armor either.

Oh well. It's really not worth it. I already have Wade's Superior Dragonbane Plate, which is 100x better than Effort ever was. Sten has Juggernaut, Ohgren has Legion of the Dead, and Allistair has knight's commander. All three of those are better than Effort. I really like having complete sets so it's a little disappointing that I couldn't get Effort Gauntlets but I'll get over it.

Um, I do. Me, right here. Dog is actually a damn decent tank. So there.

You will NOT get the full Effort set if you do NOT complete the Crossroads Drifter quest first. That's it.

Not true, broodmother dropped the chest piece for me even though I didn't complete the Drifter quest; just only some of the codex entries.
