cultural anthropology - got to ask, what is that? :-p

You're not the first one to ask me that. :D
Cultural Anthropology (UK: Social Anthropology) is the comparative studies of human cultures/societies.
Initially some white guys examined the so called savages - but thankfully the subject changed.

Welcome to Tim Hortons, how can I help you?

Fortunately, it's the night shift - all the nasty customers are replaced with zombie-people who need coffee. It pays much better than most entry level jobs. Despite screwing up my life, the job works out pretty well.

Playing video-games is also part of my job/education (I study game-design). Sometimes we play video-games all day long under the excuse of "field research".

Eh, I just don't buy it as a great career option. It seems like if they were my job I wouldn't enjoy them anymore.

As a game-design student I did learn to see games from another perspective. "What has been seen, cannot be unseen" is what they say. And it's true, also for the theory and design-methods behind games. Since I've started learning game-design, I can never see games as simple entertainment products ever again. It's hard to shut down that "designer vision" when playing games.

That said, I still enjoy playing (and of course creating) video-games with all my heart, it's just that playing video-games has become different ever since I started my study as game-designer.

Of course I can only speak for myself. I don't know if proffessional game-designers "suffer" from the same "syndrom".

I'm a software engineer, right now more focused on mobile platforms. But I'm still in college, majoring in IT with a minor in game technology (not that impressive though) completed.

I recently graduated from college with my degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology :3
Now I'm currently job hunting although if nothing comes up then I plan on going back to college for my masters. I'm interested in getting my masters in Criminology but I'd also consider a masters in Criminal Justice. Sort of depends on which college I go to XD

You and I should stay in contact, since we both aim to become proffesional game-designers and we're both into modelling (I'm actually into 3d level design mostly). Maybe you and I can share experiences, teach eachother a thing or two. Please PM me if you're interested in talking a bit about game-design!
