I hope you don't listen to music.  Songs are poetry.

Poetry set to music. Big difference. I am a fan of poetry and have many books of it that I love, I however fully understand how someone can find poetry dull and still love music.

The lyrics to songs are nothing but a poem.  Being set to music makes it a song.  No difference in my view.   The lyrics are still a poem.  There are plenty of poets that are excellent to so say that poetry sucks in general is a very jaded view.

I have plenty of poetry books myself.  I have one book that is well over 1000 pages and goes through centuries of work.  Do I like everything in it?  No, I don't.  There are some excellent poems in it and I'm glad I got it as a gift many years ago.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on that. I believe that music added to poetry adds to the package. If it didn't instrumental songs would be meaningless, but to me they are not. Some of my favorite songs would stand up well as poetry, but if I am honest alot of the lyrics would sound awful silly just read out monotone.

You do realize that every song by The Doors are from Jim Morrison's poems?  They just added music to them.  Guess you don't like classical music?  No lyrics, they are usually just instrumentals.  Those works have great meaning and feeling in them.  LIke the soundtrack to Mass Effect.  Or Star Wars

Spoken poetry isn't read in monotone.  They add inflection to certain parts.  If it is read in monotone then the poet sucks.

I just want to add.  Not all poems are meant to be spoken.  Try speaking the epic poem, Rime of the Ancient Mariner.  The copy I have of it is fourteen pages long.

I am sorry if you misread me, or if I miswrote it but I tried to say that I DO value instrumental music. As a 30 year violinist I believe I have an ear for classical. To say that you find music and poetry no different, to me, is a devaluing of the music.

You are correct in pointing out my misuse of the word monotone, what I should have said is poetry read without musical accompaniment.

Have you ever watched Def Poetry Jam on HBO?  Excellent poems being spoken without music.  And they don't need music.

I think you are misunderstanding me.  Majority of lyrics are poems set to music.  Some bands write crap for lyrics which are crappy poems.  There is no denying that, but to say all poetry sucks in general is very jaded.  Because song lyrics are poems in general.  Good ones, you can take the music out of it and the poem is still good.

OP: GO PLAY ME1!!!

For the current poetry discussion: some poems are dreadful the balladic ones everyone knows because they are in song and there are some great poems out there if you're open to abstract understandings of the universe and don't forget LIMERICKS.

My Shepard's no stranger to pain
But he's a bit slow in the brain
He is not very brave
Doesn't know how to shave
And he blew himself up with the Cain

Shoot me, but I did not play ME1. I had tried to get my hands on a copy, yet I failed. Probably since I do not prefer heading backwords from ME2 to ME1, or because I am extremely lazy. Hah, rather I not  go and wikipeia her. I think its best to get it from players themselves, their point of views to be interesting the most. Can anyone sum up her character?

People like this shouldn't be playing the series.

I'm not real sure how you "tried and failed" to get a cheap copy of one ME1, which is also totally downloadable on XBLA.

Also, seriously look at the Wiki about her. It's pretty comprehensive. But it can't tell you how to feel about her. You'll only know that if you play the game. And MY GOD MAN JUST PLAY THE GAME!

And don't bother reading the Ash threads unless you're already a fan. You will become confused and more confused.

Iakus's description is about as good as you're going to get without actually playing ME1, which you should do.

Ashley is one of only three Mass Effect women who knows how to have sex while naked. The other two are Liara and female Shepard.

What about Sh'aira? Pretty sure that broad was nude.

Can't confirm that. With her biotic brain scramble ability, any number of unpleasant things could have been going on in that bubble.

She has a brain scrable ability?
