Strangely enough, I don't think I've ever seen you in a good mood, Saphra.

Strangely enough. I can't imagine what he's like in real life.

It never ceases to amaze me how many sociopaths, misanthropes, or just plain old d*cks attempt to be part of a SOCIAL network.  You don't see too many arachnophobes hurling themselves into pits of spiders.  I just don't understand the world sometimes.

Because the only way you'll get over your fear of spiders is by tossing yourself into a pit of them?

In a wildly off-topic direction, that isn't always true. I have an almost paralyzing fear of heights, and going to the top of the Empire State Building only made it worse.

I was attempting to make an analogy:

Arachnophobes: Stay away from spiders
Misanthropes/Dicks (aka Saphra): Stay away from people/social interactions

But we can talk about spiders if you guys want to. I personally hate them. Nothing should be shaped that way and move like that. I attribute the source of my fear of spiders to The Hobbit, and thus pretty much every other fantasy universe I came in contact with (name one fantasy universe in which giant spiders are benevolent creatures).

So should I have left my crew members inside the pods at the end of ME 2 and let them get put into the human reaper so they could experience the pinnacle of true existence and merge their consciousnesses with each other? O.o

Yes. They'd have been happy with it. After all, they did try to kill you when you attacked the Reaper. Or the colonists who had been processed did, anyway.

Any particular reason why we're assuming that the liquified humans have the ability to influence the decisions of a Reaper, even one made out of said humans?

Ah yes, "join them" and die to "improve" our lives, we have dismissed that claim.

Tell you what neverdyne, how about YOU join the reapers and let the rest of us actually fight them. For you, assimilation into a unified consciousness (ala the Borg) may be acceptable. But for me, Im sorry, Im rather fond of my own individuality and everything it entails. Call me old fashioned but I kinda like thinking for myself lol.

Add a side of fava beans and a nice quiante (spelling?) and they'd certainly make Hannibal Lecter happy lol.

Legion's a retard - by his logic you wouldn't have all the other species technology which means - no EDI, no Thanix, no shields, etcetera. Hell humanity wouldn't have even used the Prothean cache and join the galactic community.

Not to mention your suicide mission would be a big mess resulting in a lot of casualties.

OP - Sorry, but prepare to be stormed by a large portion of this community, no matter how well though out your thread is.

And I always love when someone tries to be smart and says something along the lines - I will live free or die. Bahaha, can you explain me what freedom is? And how do you get it? And how do you keep it? I will bet 5 bucks that you sacrifice your principles and morals on a *daily* basis to get what you want or to advance in some aspect or form in life. So please enough with the cliche lines.

The question is, do YOU know what freedom is?  Im not 100% sure who you're talking about with this particular part of your post (because Im going to assume it's not me) and Im not meaning this as a stab at you in particular.  But I, for one, definitely know what freedom is having served my country.  There's a song we used to sing in the Army and Im sure some of you may know it but it goes a little something like; "Some say freedom is free.  But I tend to disagree.  Much like War freedom is won, through the barrel of a gun"  While not entirely true in all aspects, it does certainly ring true on others.

I'll even go so far as to say that anyone here that has had family that fought and/or died in military service knows what freedom is.  Obtaining, and sustaining freedom has 0 to do with morals.  Because when it comes down to it, as you so aptlly put it, you have to sacrafice morals and/or principles to obtain it.  In a perfect world, you dont have to sacrafice in order to achieve "freedom".  But, we dont live in a perfect world unfortunately.  So sacrafices have to be made.  Nothing comes without a cost attached and to think otherwise is childish and naive (not saying you are either but there are some who think such things CAN be obtained without sacrafice.)

Think of it. What is the purpose of our civilization? What is the purpose of technological and social progress? Is it to make our lives eternal? To know all there is to know about the universe? To reach perfect harmony in our existence? Don't we, deep inside, wish to not be alone? The Reapers are the answer, they are giving us a shortcut to achieving every civilization's ultimate goals.

There's nothing like a general purpose/goal. One is because one exist, there's not much to it.

hmmm, let me think, either join the reapers and we all die, or fight the reapers and kill most them as we all die. Really difficult choice.

I am totally going to fight them and destroy as many Reaper bastards before they take me and my fleet out.

So the geth are retards for realizing that they have no future since they're artificial life and must create their own reasons to exist, unlike other races that already have something worth fighting for? Not to mention that their situation doesn't apply to anyone else? Cool story, bro.

I'd say that's a pretty good thing to do. To shape their own destiny and be independent of others once they have the right tools to do it.

Oh, and the humans not joining the galactic community? That'd actually be a good thing, considering that they wouldn't be targeted by the Reapers.

Dont know about you, but Im pretty sure Im going to win against the Reapers WITHOUT having to die in the process.  If you want to make the "noble sacrafice" go ahead, Im sure not going to be the one to point out that there's going to be another way to win without jumping on your own sword lol.

@OP:
I would prefer to achieve that unity and "transcendence" on my own terms. I'll take the Reaper's technology and see if it's good for anything interesting, but that's about all I'm willing to take from them. Perhaps, at some time in the future, there will come the time for humans to merge into a whole that's greater than the sum of its parts. Maybe that process can be sped up by technology but nonetheless the species must be ready for such a thing in its collective mentality. Attempts to enforce unity have never ended well in human history.

@Untertone:
Yes, Legion's "logic" is flawed and I don't have a lot of patience with those cheesy lines you quoted. But on the whole, I think 111987 has countered the OP's points succintly and sufficiently.

Whatever my morals and integrity are, I'd rather die than be turned into Reaper goo.
