Keeping the Collector base offers a glimmer of hope. But aside from that, I can't think of anything.

Yup, my Shepard has pretty much placed all his eggs in that basket.

I don't deny Mass Effect 3, but without meta-gaming there is no reason to believe victory over the Reapers is possible.

YEaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....Sorry but I dont RP on the forums.  Here, Im just plain ol' Travis, or Aradace, or whatever other name people use for me lol.  And as "me" I have the knowledge that Im going to be able to defeat the reapers.  But as my "shep", I dont know that.  When Im in character, Im in character and nothing else matters.  But, Im on the forums.  And when Im on the forums, I do NOT rp.  At all.  Ever.  So any response I give to your arguement, assume it's from a metagaming PoV.  If you want that topic to be discussed from an RP perspective, then perhaps you need to tag it as such?  Just saying.

It isn't really roleplaying. There is not much point in debating any of the morality in Mass Effect if we are just going to meta-game it. If we meta-game then none of it matters. Nothing is worth discussing because none of it is "real".

The evaluate a decision Shepard makes, or can make, or to evaluate the characters in Mass Effect, it helps to look at it from their perspective.

Yep, sorry, Im still going to metagame thanks.  As I said, on these forums.  I am me, not my character.  If you want a topic debated/discussed from "Sheparad's perspective", then once again, perhaps you should tag the topic as such because unfortunately for you, not everyone has that mentality.  You may think there isnt any point in it, but I'll have to respectfully disagree with that stance.  Because if Im going to discuss anything from "shep's perspective" I may as well be rp'ing.  And in my opinion, rping in a forum/topic that is predominantly NOT rp is pointless.

It's too bad Cerberus are working for the Reapers and TIM turned into a Final Fantasy villain isn't it?

If an option to have Shepard have a Basil Fawlty-esque breakdown arises, I sure as hell know I'll be taking it.

Lol, it's worse. A hologram of TIM appears during the trial, just as the Reapers arrive.

Because if we don't have it, then it's very hard for the fans to realise that TIM is the new Saren....

This turns into the fact that there is no foreseable (sp) strategy to defeat the reapers. It really doesn't matter if you kept the collector base or destroyed it. The soundtrack for the cutscene of the reaper invasion of earth during Shepard's trial really needs to be "Don't Fear The Reaper" beginning upon the first reaper entering the upper atmosphere. But aside from that, aside from metagaming that because it's a game/sci-fi movie/whatever and not real, that any logical way to defeat them is even possible is pure faith.

The galaxy is simply out gunned.

This is no time for the faint of heart. No time for the losers and the defeaters. These will be a burden and should be executed on sight (I'm watching your Shepard, Saphra). The plan is simple. Come on you ****ing apes, do you wanna live forever?

Casey Hudson has said Cerberus are working for the Reapers and that we have to find out "why"(as if that makes things better).

Think of it. What is the purpose of our civilization? What is the purpose of technological and social progress? Is it to make our lives eternal? To know all there is to know about the universe? To reach perfect harmony in our existence? Don't we, deep inside, wish to not be alone? The Reapers are the answer, they are giving us a shortcut to achieving every civilization's ultimate goals.

The more we find out about them, the more it points to them being the ultimate destination of organic life as we know it. Think about it:

+ They are each a nation, a consolidated counciousness of billions of members of a species. "True unity" as Legion put it. The ultimate "social" goal. To be many, and one at the same time. No longer will you be alone, no longer will we fight each other over petty differences and selfishness. We will be united in an intimate way. Their unity prevents wars, prevents genocides, crime, murders, theft, loneliness, etc. They have solved the social dilema. Civilizations as we know them are too fragile, nuclear wars, holocausts; they self destruct. The Reapers solved this.

+ They are the pinnacle of technological progress, as far as we know. The consolidated knowledge of an infinte number of species. The ultimate "progress" goal. They are more capable of surviving natural disasters, scarcity of resources, etc., than any civilization will ever be. Every organic life tries to survive, from the smallest bacteria to the largest mammal, our natural purpose as a species is to survive. Becoming a Reaper is the best chance we have.

+ They are immortal. Organic species, who achieved eternal lives. Is that not what sapient species desire? Would you not choose immortality over a meaningless (in the grand scale of time, a.k.a. billions of years) temporal life? The ultimate "life" goal.

Now think of this scenario. An organic civilization that lived millions of years ago had these same goals. Maybe they saw how other civilizations destroyed themselves (like Krogan), maybe they predicted the perils of the natural universe (like dark matter consuming stars). Be whatever it may be. They achieved the technological level that made them capable of solving these problems; they reached those three ultimate goals pointed above in the only way the fisical laws of the universe permit them to be solved: becoming a Reaper.

And so when they noticed new organic sapient life take to the stars after them, in an act of kindness they would spare them the thousands, maybe even millions of years that would take for them to reach this ultimate goal of existence by themselves. They would make them Reapers. Give them a shortcut.

What would happen with the resources of our galaxy if, instead of an hibernating species like the reapers, who spend most of their time sleeping outside the galaxy, they would have let normal civilizations like humans spread and consume resources? After millions of years, would there be any left? Would the chance of new sapient species appearing in the galaxy be destroyed? Would that not be slfish? That a single species, say humans, spread across the galaxy and through millions of years consume all resources, negating the chance of new sapient species to arise?

TL;DR The Reapers are good. We should join with them.

You must of put a lot of time and effort into writing that yeah?

The only response I could come up with was this.

What Saphra is trying is say - is that there's no way "she" could lead the human race to victory against the Reapers - an argument which we must all take "her" word on.

The assertion that the rest of us aren't up to the task - is pure hokum .

As long as there is no Borg Queen equivalent, I'll probably be fine with whatever they come up with...

I can't speak for anyone else, but I wasn't exactly thinking of a queen.  Unlike the Borg, we would assume that each reaper is not linked to each other, unlike how all the Borg are basically a single mind.

The analogy I was making was that the minds in a single reaper may not have free will which is like the Borg, and somewhat unlike the Geth.  As to why that may be and whether it is because there is tech that subjugates the will of the minds has not been stated as of yet.

The geth were simple programs that were made to share data in order for self optimization, and eventually they formed a "single gestalt intellect."  They build consensus.  Organic minds don't really even work like that, if they were ascended as is why are they now of "one will?"  Why decide to tow the party line?

The term 'free will' becomes in-suficient to handle the interactions between entities in a reaper due to the following things:
-They are asumed to be hyper inteligent as well as extremely technologically advanced, so their logic may be uncomprihensible to us (For a comparison, logic evaluations of a 21st century academic would be pretty incompriendible to practically any person in the 15th century).
-There are millions of entities within one reaper, so a singular voice between millions means very little by itself.
-The entities are communicating with each other in a form that is hard for us to grasp; In our terms they would be constantly communicating telepathically with each other, possibly being aware of each others thoughts as well.

It is not unfathomable under these conditions to experience behaviour from the reapers as there have been in the games and lore.

Also, for a fun reference, I remember one of the endings from "Deus Ex 2: invisible war" was actually everyone getting connected like this with the aid of a single AI, and it was considered to be a unified peace and a transcendental ending... :police:

Sure, but it seems we would never progress from the reaper state. The reapers seems to have stagnated. I want humanity to reach beyond this galaxy and rule the universe as a whole. :D
