That's why I support adding quarians, krogan, rachni, and even the geth to the Council. Not only would it be more equal and fair, it would make things a lot more interesting. Too bad it won't happen.GodWood wrote...

In the old system the Council was untouchable. All the races united could barely present a challenge for the Council races. However the human Council is weaker, it is not so untouchable. The playing field with regards to the Council and non-Council species is much more even. This encourages more diplomacy and negotiation. Though it also engenders more suspicion, competition, and militarization.

Renegade makes sense when it comes to the Krogan due to their infamous blood rage. Don't get me wrong I'd hate to see them die, but I think a Genophage 3.0 that alters their birthrate is more viable than removing it is.

But, to be on topic, most people wouldn't think so but "safety" is a relative term. One may think that they are doing all that they can to minimize risks, but it's truely impossible to get rid of enough risks in an entire galaxy to make it "safe". In fact, sometimes I have issue with people who do things to promote safety, because in the end they neglect the need for personal responsibility, which in turn makes everyone less safe (can we say seat belt laws?).
If the ME galaxy were real, then I would have to say neither. Both are opposite ends of the spectrum that promote self-righteous ideaology over logic and circumstance. Because we are pretty much forced to choose one of the three options, I think that the best answer would be a healthy mix of both, along with the neutral option here and there. I can really see how many of the major decisions could go either way (I'm sure the game was designed as such). Hopefully ME3 will give us better context.

Not big on ME history, eh?
Remember Shanxi!
And never forget what happened to the human colonies in Terminus Systems and what nearly happened to the galaxy while the Council stood idly by. Humanity saved us all. Humans should rule to make sure they'd always do it again should the need arise.
How are you going to protect human colonies in space with Cerberus gone and Udina's vote one against three? How are you going to protect the galaxy with humanity lacking tools and power to maintain galactic stability? The galaxy without humanity in charge is screwed anyway, they proved unable to defend themselves.

LMAO. Your logic really is as brilliant as always, Saphra.
You really think the other species will just watch and do nothing when we humans dominate the galaxy alone, ESPECIALLY if the human-only council is weaker than the united council? You really think the other species won't use that advantage they have if they unite together against humanity?
No, I'll tell you what will happen. The asari, turians and salarians will unite together to overthrow humanity, they will crush humanity with sheer force, then they'll take over the council and everything will be back exactly the way it was before humanity stood up and took over.
Trust me, your human-only council will only last for a very short time. Probably only until the end of the war against the reapers. That's when the other species will stand up and say: "hey, this is bullsh*t, why are the humies running this galaxy on their own? who the heck they think they are? f*ck 'em! we want our own species back in the council"

Meh. The turians are the real losers if humanity takes over. The Salarians and Asari may have had Council seats, but by the time of ME1 are reduced to little more than stooges. Just look at the Treaty of Farixen, and even the Salarians currying favor with the Turians in hope of protection.
They wouldn't exactly be thrilled, but I don't see the Salarians and Asari going to war to restore Turian dominance. Even less so for minor species who lost nothing and are actually benefitng from human rule.
