Suddenly I know who you're talking about - the guy I let die every time at Virmire.

How terribly original. I'm sure no other male gamer made that choice. :innocent:

That's what I'm shooting for, originality.

I tried talking to the guy like, often. I'd be playing, feel guilty I don't like him, then talk to him to see if I'd change my mind. Still found myself thinking about Cheese Wiz rather than what he was saying. Ash isn't really my type at all, but at least she's interesting.

So the poor schmuck dies... a lot.

I enjoy Ash too, I have 1 save with her alive so I can see how her character plays out. Virmire will always ****** me off since it made me kill one of my fav characters, no matter what. Especially when I play as a class other than soldier, it takes away the only pure combat squaddie. <_< I would have preferred it to be a choice between all teammates, since there's one or two it wouldn't have bothered me to lose.

Perhaps to really experience how wonderful Kaidan's character is, you need to play as FemShep. Jen Hale is also an incredible VA. You may not care to play as a chick though; although goodness knows I've been forced to play male characters for many years. *glares at other game companies who refuse to acknowledge the existence of women gamers*

I love Michael Ironside, but Vega is supposed to be sort of the "new kid" on the block, inexperienced with the galaxy. Ironside's voice is just too... weighty for that kind of a role.

I agree his voice is too mature, and not only that, he's Sam Fisher for crying out loud! If he voiced Vega, he would need a pair of green goggles or it just wouldn't work. :P (As a completely pointless aside, I was devastated when they took those away in Conviction. He just wasn't as interesting to look at sans the cool headgear.)

Conviction isn't a real Splinter Cell game to begin with, but sonar goggles were nice too.

Yes I agree that there should be more games for women or more woman avatars.

I will never play FemShep, not because I have anything against women or Jennifer Hale, but because I play the game pretending I'm Shepard and I can't do that as a woman, since I'm not a woman.

Aaaaaand I think that's how most of us gals like to play too. If my own gender is available in a game, I always choose it, but it often isn't. Pardon my extreme bitterness on that subject. I do understand why you wouldn't care to play as a female. ;) But I guess you'll just have to take my word then as to how breathtakingly awesome Kaidan is as a character. :D

Lol, or I could just say I respect your opinion but for Kaiden to be truly awesome they should have written him to be interesting to both genders, like they did with Garrus and Wrex and Anderson and... well you get my point.

It's good you enjoy him, I certainly don't want you to not enjoy Mass Effect.

kaidon is okay, not the best character in my opinion, at least for ME1, but he'll probably make up for it in ME3.

This... By this time two years ago we already had Grunt & Jack reveal trailers (and multiple in-game Thane reveal screens). But with ME3 we've only seen one new character so far - Vega on 2 non-in-game pictures and 5 seconds in the trailer (and with helmet on...), not even his voice...

We shall agree to disagree in civilized fashion then....unless you prefer to mud wrestle, or fifty paces with pistols?

There are quite a few straight men (which I think you are) who enjoy Kaidan and post in his fan thread, so it really all boils down to personal preference and opinion.

Thank you for the good wishes. I've been enjoying Mass Effect since it was first released, and hope to continue the tradition when 3 is finally released.

Where the old formula consisted of "There's only one correct way to ghost a level?" Not really my type of fun. Chaos Theory tried to give more options, but any mission involving the Korea War arc reduced it to linear corridors with little to no options.

Well mud wrestling has its charms... :o

Yes, I hope I didn't come across as if I were speaking for all men, I was only referring to my taste in crew members.  :)

Just because X, Y and Z happened along a similar month two years ago before ME2 was released doesn't mean they will go down the same path for marketing ME3 this time around.

But....but...the old style fulfilled all my best ninja fantasies AND allowed Fisher to look cool and fashionable while doing it!  Seriously though, CT was my favorite out of all the Splinter Cell games. I also really liked the coop levels.

I understood perfectly, and you have been very polite. There's just so much Kaidan hate, it's hard for me not to needle people about it here and there just a little.

(edit for bloody typos)

I liked the idea, but the execution needed work. I'm going to side with the lead director of Conviction for at least trying something new with the series (and I'm glad with the final product instead of the Assassin's Creed clone they had in place). I also hated the scoring system they had in place for it, and that alone made me glad I bought the 360 version of Double Agent used for less than $10. If I want to be able to fulfill my ninja fantasies, I should be able to sneak by at my own pace with my own path instead of "This game will only let you go down this path. LOLZ"

I didn't feel needled so it's all good. Regarding hate... I'm more apathetic towards him. I wouldn't go out of my way to kill him, the game forces me to make a choice. I would be content with just leaving him in the ship so he could work out his biotic implant issues with the doctor.

I'm glad you liked the newer formula, I just think the old formula had its own type of charm...and the first Splinter Cell game came out in '02 and predates the Assassin's Creed games, so I'm not sure how a SC game could been seen as a clone of AC. *shrug*

Problem is playing the first four games "properly" (i.e. If you want to do a "no kills/no k.o/no detection") required people to be Rain Men in terms of memorizing each mission. Pardon me, but I don't have the time to waste hours just to memorize every minute detail of each room of the game. About the Assassin's Creed clone comment, I was referring to the earlier versions of Conviction.

Understandable. I think it may just go against the psyche of many male players to leave the woman to die and save another guy. White knight and all that.

Although, if you want to think of it from a pure command decision point-of-view, Kaidan is the superior officer, a rare. powerful L2 human biotic and probably far more valuable to the Alliance than Ash.

On topic- I really, REALLY want it to be a character trailer. With more than just A character. I want hints of Miranda, Jack, Thane, Grunt and others, a new character perhaps?

Either way, I'm honestly expecting to be disappointed. I honestly can't recall, other than the VGA Mass Effect 3 reveal, when Bioware DID NOT disappoint with an announcement. Feb 01, 2011, anyone? The last few conventions have been the same dang stuff over and over (combat, combat, Krogan Princess, combat, PEW PEW), and the Q n A's have resulted in almost nothing more than "Oh man, wait and see!" REALLY? We have to wait and see as to why Liara's face model was reverted back?

Now, this isn't an attempt to knock Bioware. Other than the few complaints almost everyone has with Dragon Age 2, I have never been less than completely satisfied with Bioware CONTENT. I know they're quality, but I'm on the side that thinks the Bio marketing group just isn't hitting my interest, to say the least, and to do so as politely as possible. I appreciate fan interaction (which Bioware definitely makes that effort, regardless of the coy responses), I appreciate the end result, but my honest opinion is that, usually, these announcements are ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

I mean this all as respectfully as possible, regardless of how negative I seem.

A lot of the marketing so far seems to have been about changes to combat, including a peculiar focus on the cheesy "Commander Taggart" roll..
