It's highly unlikely that it stole development time from the single player. If anything, the single player was probably complete or close to it before they started work on multiplayer.

I tend to find ME2 longer than ME1, personally. It seems like I'm the odd one out though. Most forumites claim they're about even.

Folks, let's please remember how Bioware baited us with a "big announcement" about a year or so ago (or was it longer? I forget)... with the whole Bioware marketplace nonsense... something that caused a massive uproar in the community since we thought it would actually be something... interesting and game related.

My bet? The "big announcement" is "Buy Star Wars the Old Republic and get a free Jawa pet  aboard the Normandy in Mass Effect 3!" <_<

None of Bioware's "big announcements" ever pan out as something genuinely interesting - they way oversell it and frequently disappoint. Taper your expectations, people

James Vega voice over or Shepard cast in the film...I feel like that's tapering.

I guess I could go lower: "Miranda confirmed to be a squadmate!  Although we aren't saying when, or for how long, and we don't have any screenshots we are ready to release."

Or even lower: "Earings confirmed as an option for FemShep!"

"Big news you've all been waiting for!" >>> "Multiplayer!"

... How do you even make that leap of logic?

That's because they probably feel some strange need to find every mineral deposit on every uncharted world. Personally, I find ME2 takes up to 1.5 times as long as ME1, although a lot of that extra time's due to the fact that ME2 has more DLC.

...because it's the infamous marketing department. There's no shortage of them acting like we're interested in things many of us are not.

I'm not saying it's definitely multiplayer. I'm not even saying it's probably multiplayer. But I am saying that that leap of 'logic' rests more with past history than histrionics.

Fixed for you.. the other word didn't belong in relation to the OP... it was just a leap, logic was not involved in any shape or form.

Oh, with DLC ME2 is definitely longer. Vanilla-wise, though? At launch? I'd still pin ME2 as slightly longer. Just... my files always wind up that much longer somehow. Even without all the Citadel backtracking from ME1.

What part of Bioware saying there is no multiplayer don't people get. Unless there is a reason why we shouldn't trust them...

They never said there was not multiplayer.

They've never denied it. I personally am starting to doubt that they'll do something like that (thank God) but they've never denied it, they just deflect the question when it's asked.

If multiplayer does end up in the game, then that's all the reason anyone will ever need.  After that, the people who trust Bioware will be scorned, and rightfully so.  The logical, rational individuals will distrust anything that comes out of Bioware's collective mouth from then on.

@EternalAmbiguity

They have denied it repeatedly.  Other times they avoid it, but I have seen them deny it.

Never outright denied it. That's what has people on-edge. (And Mr. Kusy leaning over in his seat with anticipation.)

Up until around 2007 or so Squaresoft/Square Enix was my favorite company. For years and years they've had the most amazingly blatant history of lying directly to their fans countless times and yet some people still insist they're trustworthy.

There will always be defenders.

Seriously, after about 15 different attempts at people trying to link ME3 to a multiplayer mode(going back to before ME2 was even out) Can we just let this pipe dream die? Mass Effect 3 has no multiplayer, it never will. That doesn't it won't be later in the franchise, but not in ME3, get over it.

I wouldn't classify it as a "pipe dream" for most of us. :)

It's the Geth Head Lamp. It comes with the Collector's Edition of ME3. That's the big announcement. You heard it here first.

Has anybody been keeping a count on the number of times this thread has popped up? It's got to be enough where some bookkeeper in Vegas put down a line on it, right? ME3 to have multiplayer, at -500?

Look, I'm gonna call it as the FemShep trailer - which certainly fits the bill of being eagerly awaited, at least in certain vocal parts of the fanbase - and call it a night.

To OP:
Please can you change the title? Because I think it's misleading a little. I mean, YOU are assuming that it's about MP, others are thinking probably in something else.
I suggest you to change it for "Possible new announcement in this week." or somthing like that
