Can't delete one particular career on 360

Well up until recently I've never had an issue deleting a career after they're done... and then suddenly this particular career (and only this one, I've successfully deleted other ones since) just refuses. To. Leave. I've attempted deleting it in-game (the message that it's currently being removed pops up but then it's still there afterward) and I've tried removing it directly from the 360 Dashboard (it acts like it's gone, then pops back up in-game and then shows up again on the Dashboard for 'good' measure') and neither option works.
It's not an end-of-the-world scenario. Apart from the usual framerate hitches and maybe one or two freezes across several files I've had no other problems with ME1. But I'm a bit worried this could be a symptom of a larger problem or something.
Is there any way whatsoever to get rid of this damn unwanted career? And if not, can I at least get some sort of guarantee that this isn't a sign of impending doom or anything?

Because
It does not give you an option to delete the characters from mass effect 1 if you have beaten the game with them. You can delete all the saves and careers but that character and all the choices you made with that character will still be saved to the hard drive. I had the same problem and it gets annoying when you have to sit there and sift through all your profiles when you import a character.
This is from my friend by the way.

Well I never beat the game with this particular character, obviously, since my friend just messed around for a short while on Eden Prime. But I think I understand the root cause more now.
Thanks for your time!

Never finished the game with this career, never even made a save using this career, not even an autosave (turned autosave off before starting).
Even if I have to hook my drive up to the computer and use modio on a save or something, that's okay, if that's what it takes, I just don't want to go mucking around in that stuff if there's no way to do it that way.

I recently cleaned up a bunch of old careers and remember having to fiddle with it to let me delete them (like I described above). Don't remember if it was on the Xbox or PC that was giving me a hassle though.

Did you try it by going from the start menu> load game> switch careers? I'm pretty sure it won't let you delete the current game, so if you load a different career, it may allow you to delete the one you're trying to get rid of. Another thing to do also is clear the cache (storage maintenance).

Yes, I tried deleting from switch careers, to no avail, but thanks for trying to help. The one I want to eradicate is never the current game, because there are no saves in the career, it's empty.
I've never thought of clearing the cache, don't really see how that could help, but it certainly couldn't hurt, so maybe I'll try that just to see.

You can transfer all the end game import files off your hard drive and onto a USB thumb drive, but it's all or nothing (you can't selectively remove certain characters).
However if you kept a save right before the Saren fight of the characters you do want to save, all you need to do is beat Saren again and you're good to go.

Thanks for trying to help, but this issue had nothing to do with end game import files.
HOWEVER, I did find a solution to my problem, though it does require transferring saves to your PC and using a hex editor and Modio.
Get the save Content/[profile id]/4D5307E8/00000001/GamerProfile onto your PC by whatever method you use for that (profile id will be different for everyone, just try whichever are on your 360 until you find the right one). MAKE SURE YOU BACK IT UP BEFORE MAKING ANY ALTERATIONS!!!!! If things go wrong, just replace your backup and that should fix things, albeit you'll still have the unwanted career hanging around.
Next, open up GamerProfile in a hex editor (I use one called XVI32 that is freeware, you can find it with google if you need it) and look for a replace function (search->replace... in XVI32). Then you want to find a text string of whatever your career is named, and replace it with a different name of the same length (very important, make sure it's no longer, no shorter), making sure there are NO spaces in the new name. Replace any spaces with a letter, doesn't matter which letter. Then use replace all. For me it replaced two instances of the old name with my new one, I don't know if that's always going to be the case or if it will vary.
After it's replaced, save and exit the hex editor, then open up the file in Modio and resign/rehash it. Then simply return it to the original Content/[profile id]/4D5307E8/00000001/GamerProfile directory on the 360.
One more step, run Mass Effect, then try to delete the career again. If all went well, the career should now actually delete. If not, sorry, it worked for me, though.
It seems the issue, at least in my case, was that the career name had a space in it. For some reason you cannot delete a career if the name has such a space. Hex editing the GamerProfile to replace that space with a letter resolves the issue and lets you delete it at last.
