laterly i start to encounter some strange problem, when im in any conversation that related to story line, there is a fairly high chance the conversation will start to lag after around 10 secs, then it will be getting lagger and lagger and finally hit the death freeze. i am running DAO ultimate edition (hard copy), patch version is 1.4, anyone know what might be the issue?

A complete problem report as described in the read first thread pinned to the top of this forum is needed for anyone to hazard a useful guess. If you applied to 1.4 patch on top of a UE install (which comes patched to 1.4) that may be your problem.
