I suppose what I'm asking is if there's a way to have my cake and eat it too, I want to start a second ME2 game importing my old ME2 character for the extra levels and XP, but try a new class. I know you're not "supposed" to do this, but if there's a hack/mod that allows it that would be cool. (PC version) I also want to be reasonably sure nothing will get corrupted when this save's eventually imported into ME3.

Download the Gibbed save editor.

Open your save.

Change your class to the new class you want to have. Give yourself 51 talent points (minus any points spent in abilities your new class will share; so, if going from soldier to vanguard with 10 points in inferno ammo, give yourself 41 points).

Save the game. Import this new save.

There's absolutely no reason whatsoever why it should even remotely bother ME3, but best to keep a backup just in case.

You could probably get an app to edit your saves, but you'll want to back up the original.

I haven't tried this myself, so I don't really know.

It works fine. I did this on my 3rd playthrough to get a little taste of each class.

Just be careful with the points, and the weapons can be applied odd but that works itself out when you use the weapons locker.
