Remember that game where you are a simple martial arts master living in a small village and, while preparing for the wedding of your best friend to your other friend, your village gets caught in the middle of a battle between two groups of people in giant robots? You get into an abandoned mecha to defend your village, but many villagers die anyway, including both of your friends, and you are forced to leave the village with your doctor companion. This obviously leads to an awesome adventure with giant robots, pirates, religious themes and massive conspiracies.

@Zanallen
I am not sure if this is it but if it is I will owe my cousin a great deal. For a time in 1999 he went on and on about a game he liked for quite a while. I personally was never able to play it though. Since I had made a vow to myself about gaming at age 10: "To never play a console game no matter how much fun it looked". Kicked myself when Mass Effect came out but to this day still live by that vow.
I think he called it something like Zeno Tears or something close to that.

Is that anywhere near it?

Xenogears?
Remember that game that came before Mass Effect and was also touted as a "Space Opera" and had this hot robot chick who's special attack is some sort of sexual euphamism?

Xenosaga? XD
Well, KOS-MOS did have that one suspiciously yonic cannon in her stomach. No, really. Also she had a hand that became a sword, which I suppose *could* be have a phallic interpretation.

Remember that game that had this flying jester that combined with kids and flew around in amazing worlds inside their own heads, while it was also a plot for a coming-of-age, overcoming your fear, and finding love thing, all while fighting an evil guy that created the flying jester that rebelled aganst him?

sounds like "NIGHTS into dreams"
Does anyone remember the "game" that was not really a game but an interdimensional portal based trap to suck the player's soul into another world where the player would inhabit someone's body (moving to other people as the game progressed) but if a demon killed the person whose body you inhabited then the player's soul goes to hell?
