It has been argued that the use of iconic appearances is one thing that makes the game cartoony and immature though.

Really? =] Well I can understand 'cartoony' as in most cartoons we have the same characters who wear the same clothes all the time. But that's apparent in almost every cartoon, even adult ones like South Park or Family Guy. In no way should clothes make any game 'immature' unless I see Fenris in clown hair and wearing a red nose.

Expanding and deepening the s/s options in DA2 doesn't seem on-strategy if Bioware did make the game for 'kids'. Not because that content is inappropriate at all, but because the teenage (COD) boys who are allegedly the new target market according to some in this thread really, really don't respond well to m/m content in my experience.

I personally prefer not having Hawke and company's heads covered by armor. Yes, its not realistic, but its a video game, and I would rather see my character's pretty heads than helmets.

DAO was ok, with all the helmets toggled off during conversation, but when I first started equiping helmets (since no one starts with them equipped), I got a little bummed out that they covered people's faces, or just looked dumb. I found that often times, I would get a helmet that had awesome stats, but I hated the way it looked on the character. So to me, DA2 had it perfect with helmets always toggled off, cos my character still looked good, not matter what helmet I put on them.

As for arms, legs, and other parts being exposed - I think majority of video games, comic books, etc, don't have realistic armor for characters. I mean, even for DAO, the Dalish Armor exposed the female Warden's mid-drift. So that's just something I've accepted as never going to be realistic, and I'm ok with that, as long both sexes are treated equally in their non-realism.

With Origins, I made Wynne and Arcane Warrior. So she ended up looking exactly the same as Alistair. I'd rather they look different.

As for Fenris's look making him appeal to pre-teens, and teens - perhaps there are more preteens and teens that love his look. But I'm in my 20's and had no problem with him, so I think its more personal preference.

There is a mod for the PC that will unequip helmets when there are no fights taking place.

But on a personal note I would rather be given the freedom to customize my companions armour and weapons. Call me old fanshioned but I prefer freedom to choose. I also like the ability to pick what race I wish to be in a RPG something that BioWare took away from me in DA:2. Amoungst other things as well.

ME2 is not a better game than ME.
And that DA3 will suffer from DA2's failure. So he seem to have a clue.

LOL orly?

Thank god for Youtube. It sounded as though Mark of the Assassin was a different game to DA2 on the feedback thread. The flash-teleport-dead rogue walkthrough, the generally uninspired dialogue mixed with an occasional funny line tells me all I need to know. Meme-obsessed cannibalistic self-referencing can be wearing when it is a substitute for content.

But it's finally sunk in what Dragon Age is all about now. Apart from WoW, I kind of equate it with the new Dr Who, which, despite being hystrionic nonsense played like the actors were carried-away children (and is meant to be for children), has acquired a geek chic. DA2 acting might not be hystrionic, but the story set ups are feeling equally unconvincing. Your old fashioned geek is just after intelligent, mature stuff, yet they understand that fantasy can be for adults (and they aren't really a 'geek' half the time).

Who knows, perhaps DA3 will get back to being a fantasy RPG (and I would be back in this case) but it is time to stop kidding myself that the devs aren't fixed on just tweaking the DA2 path.

So good luck Bioware, it's a shame for you the ratings people think you can't make violence unrealistic enough and 'sexy' dialogue cheesy and obvious enough to be considered alright for the audience of 10-14 and immature 15-20 year olds you're after. Perhaps then you could have honestly marketed the game and wouldn't have had annoyed older fans pestering your boards.

I have a vague thought that it's almost ironic that Codex is currently fighting against casual gamers in The Guild, while Tallis is in MoTA.
