I ran across an old thread here:

Old thread...

That was ambiguous.  One poster seemed to indicate that it was fully patched and another seemed to indicate that it was not.  Can anyone clarify this for me?

Kamal told me that to use the steam version, you have to have a connection to the internet to connect to steam. I'm not into that.

I usually play Steam games in "offline mode". People who have problems starting offline mode add the following two lines to the steam.cfg:

BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable
ForceOfflineMode=enable

If they do not have a steam.cfg, apparently they create one. I haven't had a problem going into offline mode, so, I haven't tried this. My settings don't allow Steam to update my games automatically, either.

I like steam a lot. I bought a couple of copies of NWN2 Platinum for under $7 bucks (each) last January to give away as gifts.

Hey, thanks for the info. I may just try it out then, since I am going to have to redo my system soon and re-patching the game is pain-pain-pain!

I'm just starting to get comfortable with digital content and not having boxes or needing to be connected to the web.  Its a new world where privacy is a luxery.  My next step is to start joining the nudist beaches.  I'm freeeeee!

Seriously though, I find Steam fairly painless and there are good people behind it who want nothing more than to revolutionise gaming ease and produce excellent games.  These days, as soon as we enter into the digital market we are giving up our privacy.  I don't think any company can fully protect against getting hacked.  And now hacking appears to be organised and big business.

My only compaint with Steam is that it doesn't allow me to choose my game install locations.  I know there are ways around that but the beauty of Steam is ease of access and use. I don't want to have to start manually changing configurations on something that was intended to be user friendly.

Finally, if you want to get even more fancy with Steam, use dropbox for your saved games and you're completely mobile for playing NWN2 on any computer in your armada.

Thanks for the response, foil-. I may just give it a spin next time I clean out my system.
