What did you name your character?

I did the Viconia romance in that first playthrough, so in all successive playthroughs my character has been named Evice DeVir, which assumes that after the first game ended Evice and Viconia got married. I've reimported my character into the game and am on my 4th playthrough so it's really the same pc with the same Viconia (who I re-created using Shadowkeeper).
When I used to play Baldur's Gate several years ago my pc was Varec Bhaalson. Varec Syravacson is another character in the same story I'm writing, but is the good aligned uncle of Evice de Sulvos. I thought "Bhaalson" was a fitting surname in BG given the pc's parentage. I used Varec Bhaalson through 3 complete playthroughs of BG1 and was midway through a 4th playthrough when my computer crashed, in 2005, which ended that era of BG playing.
My first ever pc was named Skiven. I can't remember how I came up with that name and I didn't play with it for long. He was a hafling fighter and I accidentely attacked and killed a peasant when I was just learning how to play and was trying to talk to him. The Flaming Fist hounded me for the rest of the game until I eventually gave up in disgust and didn't play Baldur's Gate for a while thereafter. That was probably in 1999 or 2000.

It all depends, sometimes I make up a name - then midwise I remember where I've heard that name before. Sometimes frightening, sometimes fun!
Boreas, Verenor, Horus, Abaddon, Aximand, Eliphas and Rylanor are some names I've used - all from the Warhammer 40 000 universe.
Raqulis Septera was the first female character name I really invented myself, from when I played through Baldurs Gate 2 for the first time, probably got it from Raelis Shai.
Yarath, Tyroxus, Malevorn and Borgael are names I have invented myself - probably based on names I have heard or read somewhere in my life.
I realized I did make names based on others when I named a character Haeus Ordallis, wich sounds like a mix of Haer'Dalis & Odesseiron.

Bandar- halfling thief
First online D&D/ later BG char:
Yrinyosti Kalaidalas- elven bladesinger/ (FTR/MGE/THF)
First NWN char:
Kruklia Battleforge- dwarf FTR/ROG
I like names a lot and take at least as much time with that as with the entire process (though probably not so much as Gorthaur mentioned) so as to really identify and connect with them... knowing I'll be- if all goes well- bringing the person through many hours of gameplay and ultimately some powerful accession... It's more important for sustaining my interest than class development considerations or the usual level and magic item acquisition.
A combination of many factors goes into a name for me, though I do prefer Corey and Son of Imoen's tendency to create exclusively unique names every time that don't reflect any popular or contemporary-sounding name. That said, I do like the real historical name Aethelflaed, but if I were to go with it, I'd change it to be my own version like Aathnalenflaed (or Ghalladruzel, for instance, over Galadriel). I also like what Grimwald said about the name Asha, and might be tempted to go with it if the name meant something to me otherwise.
General name creation factors:
1. Race and class are the basis from which to sculpt them. I won't make a gnome-sounding name for a half-orc (Blim Biddle, the half-orc barbarian?), for instance, or a roguish nickname for a cleric (Jikk the Nick for a Lathander priest?). So those are the initial parameters.
2. Whim and flavor. I could be interested in hearing a K or J or some specific phonetic combination- and I'll bounce consonants through my head for something that sounds interesting and matches the character's intended personality and, as Skypezee mentioned, the intended voiceset. Whatever I find most compelling, I'll work it in somehow, but the main criteria is that it has to flow as a name as if it makes sense for a person- i.e., most people call each other by one-syllable short versions, so a Christopher will usually not require people to pronounce all three syllables. Same goes with an invented name: realistic convenience. So Gargundroplunder would then be called... Garg?
3. How much I take the character seriously. My dumb half-orcs often get joke names: Klunk Klunk is a very good duel-wielding hammerer I've been working with lately... ;-)
Other NWN names:
Donner Cario-Entrizi, human fighter/rogue/weapon master
Barlan "the Rock" Karkman, human fighter/weapon master
Frimbim Quickchisel, gnome rogue/wizard
Fribin Dagger, halfling rogue/ranger
Feylathil Aluryl'denrunae, elven fighter/weapon master
Azaelio Q'Nyzzik, half-drow bard
By the way- Magnus Stonecrotch sounds like the character in the movie "The Jerk" named "Ironballs McKenzie." hehe

My own NWN character got a double name though: Isendel L'for, but I can't remember how the game deals with double names, I haven't played it for a long time now. Didn't get past the second chapter, the game doesn't involve me nearly as much as BG. Maybe I should just continue to mods without wanting to do the vanilla opening campaign first.

Son of Imoen wrote...
@Bhryaen: I see you do like 'christian' and surnames combinations. I experimented with a character-name like Gildor the Mighty (my first character's name: I took it straightaway from a walkthrough), but I found it a pity the dialogue doesn't treat surnames like surnames. In a very casual combination, like Imoen talking to you 'Heya, how do you feel?' the whole name gets inserted. It becomes 'Heya, Gildor the Mighty, how do you feel' or in one of your examples 'Heya Feylathil Aluryl'denrunae how do you feel'. It would be nice if the CHARNAME variable was split in two: 'Heya Feylathil, how do you feel' if Imoen talks to you and 'Hail Feylathil Aluryl'denrunae, I send thee greetings' if officially spoken to. I therefore decided to go for single-word names.
Not sure what you meant by "christian" names, but I do tend to add a last name, if only because it tends to add an extra element- clan, nickname, story link. That's true though about BG only having one line for name, so if you put a surname in, it's like the main character is requiring everyone around them to call them by their full name. hehe "I will not be addressed idly!" I have had single-word names in NWN- albeit rarely- though the only one that comes to mind is Eishyne, an Elven mage/rogue. Of course, most if not all of the main BG characters have single-word names themselves- Garrick, Imoen, Gorion, Noober, Caldo and Krumm... So good point, hmph... (except for Firebead Elvenhair
My no-reload characters thus far have been Zathryl'thae, Akgrogan MacFakulfor, and the languishing (but still alive) Andrizztyl, so at least the elves are more BG-specific single-namers. My first BG char had a surname only because I hadn't anticipated how it would look in the actual BG game dialogue... Must just be my extensive NWN experiences that had me list my surname-laden chars here...
They do alternate the use of both names in NWN depending on situation, but the OC isn't so great on dialogue anyway (the quality of which was sacrificed along with story depth from BG for a more dynamic game world environment). NWN Chap 2 and 3 are pretty good for what they are, but most of my NWN play has been on server-based role-play mods online where the only ones addressing you are other players- and in that case they do indeed tend to contract whatever name you've got to call you by your first syllable or such. No other player is going to call you "the Mighty" lol...
Nothing I've found has the immersive quality of BG... just too much originality in it, game developers too free-handed, good-humored, and wild-imagining.

I suppose that being consistant she should be called Rajkumari Nilo or Princess Azure, but since when has language been consistant? The word telescope is made from a mixture of Latin and Greek after all. I call her rajkumari Azure, as being an Air Genasi, her skin is blue. Not very original, but I think that it sounds good.
