Okay so I have looked all over the internet, pretty much trying my best to do what people have said I should do to get Mass Effect to work. Some of the people who had good things to say did not really explain how to do what they said you need to do. I am good at computers, but not professional and well not as good as a lot of other people so just telling me what I need to change does not help much lol. When I first installed it, it would always pop up before the Title Page thingy came up and said some wacked out message thing. And now I installed the game in my own foldier, so it gets to the title pager and I say play but then it wants to do configuring but then it says error and that the configuration has stopped working. I just want to know a solid good way in getting my game to work because I love it and I want to play it again. I have Vista by the way -.-. So someone please help me especially if you know a sure way to getting my game to work.

According to prior comments, now is not the first time to have tried to install ME1, but the profile is nevertheless very new.   Was there absolutely nothing different between then and now about the laptop?  It is very common for very Low Quality cheap laptops to do what you wrote about, because the laptop is just so bad it cannot handle the game properly (typically with one of Intel Corp's very bad video chip systems).

Truthful, Practical version of ME-1 System Requirements:

Alternate version of including adequate information (ME-1)

P. S.  The first patch got rid of a great deal of the problems with the System Configuration Tool failing.

I played it first on my brother's XBOX 360, and then I installed it on his computer as well, his lab top let it install without any problems what so ever. I had problems before with this lab top. I gacve up trying to get it installed but I really want to play it again so I am trying everything to figure out how I can play it again. Which is not going well, and I feel like giving up again lol.

I'm having the same problem with my PC version of ME1. I installed the game, but when I clicked play on the launcher for the first time, it brings me to the configuration utility and then it crashes and brings up the option to send an error report. otherwise it just closes and nothing happens, and I can't play.

computer specs:
OS: windows XP 64bit, service pack 2
CPU: intel core i5-2500k
Video card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti

You will need your own personal message thread, with the rest of the information (software stuff) you left out.

Our OP hasn't provided data to use for her question, so you can't take her thread over with your own new "Me, Too".

Both of you need to be certain you know where you are in here.  We aren't employed by EA or Bioware.  We in here are merely fellow gamers dropping in to offer suggestions sometimes, if we actually have sufficient information to work with.  EA has its own separate official support, found here:

It seems that not only are people too lazy to use any form of search functionality to find out the answer to this oft asked question, they also seem too lazy to download and install any patches before crying out for help.

Neither of them ever came back again . . not to admit to ignoring the hardware requirement, in the OP's case (or perhaps to deciding we are all supposed to be clairvoyants if we hang around in here), or to skipping the patch, in the hijack attempt's non-similar version of a "Me, Too".

The answer for the problem is right in this sentence. Just download the 1.02 patch and apply it, it should work. (atleast get past the crash at /that/ part)

And now, seems very unlikely to do so.

2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)

I have not been lazy. You have no idea how long I have looked for advice and information and I havr tried so many things, but none have worked. So don't you say I am lazy, this was basically my last option... Why is everyone so miserable on this site?

I also downloaded a patch but it is not letting me play still. It is getting past the configuration crashing, but now it pops up a new stupid problem. But I am just going to give up and get a new lab top or something in the future for college and when I do I will play it then.

If you want to ignore the threads labelled;
[PC] Mass Effect 1 Patch and Bring Down the Sky Links
How to report a problem with your PC version of Mass Effect 1

Then do not act surprised when people call you lazy. You are more than welcome to go away and deal with EA support if you dont like the responses you get on these forums.

Give us the information that we need to help YOU deal with YOUR problem, and you will find us extremely helpful. Waste our time by demanding help (thats what its considered when you "shout" in the title) and giving us very few details to work with, and we wont exactly be forthcoming with aid.

It is also easier for troubleshooters to help when they have the required information at hand. All regular troubleshooters like Bogsnot, mcsupersport and Gorath Alpha will (time pending) answer all issues if the info is there, otherwise they would be wasting time just guessing what the problem is.

The symptom of a problem does not necessarily identify the cause (especially on PC), though it will usually identify a cluster of causes. They can get to the cause quicker if they have the info required. This assumes the person requesting help does still want help of course.
