Anyone else planning to buy this game?

The new gameplay trailer looks like a lot of fun, especially the mind control part: http://youtu.be/jSNtIeLxcMg?hd=1

This one is from a few days ago I believe: http://www.ign.com/v...=926419&show=HD

60' TV spot: http://youtu.be/GooazR-tmG4?hd=1

I imagine the game is going to look amazing at 1080p resolution.

EDIT: Some hi res 2560x1600 screens from the PC version:

I've been thinking about it, but my priority on October 4 will be Dark Souls. :D

I heard about it quite some time ago, and am excited about it, but wow, there are so many things coming out this fall/winter. It's a veritable smorgasbord.

I'm hoping there will be a big mod expanding the crafting and some RPG features.

From what I understand, the modding tool id is providing will be very powerful.

Personally, I'm excited about the split-screen co-op.

Hmm. Well, twist my arm, I guess I'll have to get this on Tuesday as well.

Looking forward to it, and have it on pre order paid off...saddly I think it will be a great game, yet a sleeper hit.

It will be a rental for me - a great rental, but a rental. likely to range in low 9s, high 8s. I love the technical and graphical work they've put it, but the story and gameplay aren't pulling me in.

Looks like it could be good. But I want to try it before I whip out my credit card. Not convinced yet.

I'm unconvinced by it. Might rent it at some point.

Are there any rpg features in the game? Because if there isn't I wouldn't buy it and how is the crafting if any?

I can get lost in a good crafting system.

I know there's some sort of upgrading system, but it likely isn't particularly in-depth. Can't say for sure until October 4.

The game is reportedly semi-open world and there are options in terms of the order in which you complete quests. For example, it's possible to complete the game without visiting every area. Also, I believe you can go back to areas you've cleared previously, but I don't think enemies respawn.

You can craft various weapons, armor, weapons mods, robots and ammo.

According to Tim Willits: "Through your relationships with characters in the game, you earn [crafting] recipes over time. Then you buy, loot, or receive as rewards the different ingredients that each recipe calls for. We then teach the player how to use these items in appropriate areas. Engineering items should become a great player choice mechanic, allowing for varied player experiences."

Sentry goin' up!

Also according to Tim Willits: "Rage has an economy where you are allowed to choose how you spend your money earned through combat and racing. You might decide you love the wingstick (a boomerang-******-shuriken weapon) and stock up on them, or you may feel inclined to purchase parts to build more sentry bots or to keep your armour upgraded and repaired."

As far as character customization goes, the type of armor you select at the beginning has an impact on your playing style somewhat like classes, but there are no real classes in the game. The armor you wear and upgrade over time is your only customization of appearance. Your character is visible in third person only when you enter/exit (or get thrown out the windshield of)
your vehicle.

I pre-ordered it, it's the first big release for Id since Doom 3, and it's published by Bethesda, I cant wait for it.

I'm excited, but I was hoping to get a few answers to some of my questions here since I'm a bit in the dark about this game. Seen the trailers, and it looks interesting, but...

How linear is the shooter gameplay?
Do you have any choices in the story?
What is the game's main selling point? What does it offer that other's dont?

I'd only be interested if it allowed 3rd person gameplay. If I only want 3rd person when entering/exiting my vehicle, I'll stick with Borderlands.

It will have a more open-world feel than what id games are known for, but it isn't going to be like Elder scrolls - more like borderlands.

Do you have any choices in the story?

Of any particular meaning? Doubtful, to be honest.

What is the game's main selling point? What does it offer that other's dont?

From my current perception from previews? Graphical firepower at its strongest for this point in time.

You put John Carmack in a room with a game no matter what it will run flawlessly. The requirements for Rage are very low for something that looks so good. 9800gtx for recommend is something.

I'ld have to say, don't let the "lay of the land" fool you, the games world and SP lengthis set to be really really long. Think of Half-Life long, and its maker stated the game was made as a direct response to cookie cutter shooters, and if you want a 4-8 hour SP game, then you'll want to avoid this, as you'll spend that much time in the starting area,

As to what it offers, it has a crap ton of side missions you don't have to do. "races" and the upgrade system is robust yet limited items force you to specialize, do you want this weapon mod? This special Ammo? These Turrents? The remote car bombs?  So it offers alot of customization, and things to do, and most of those who have gotten a full version of the game to test it have given it solid 8's and 9's.

What bothers me is alot of the comments in this thread pretty much proves my earlier point.

This will be a fantastic game, but given how hard it is to find news on the game (all of my info comes from a video on XBL and not the site honestly) the fact they waited till litterally weeks till release to even to start promoting the game majorly, and all the other games coming out this and next month, that have gotten more hype, or arn't new IP's this won't sell well, even if reviewers give it a 9 or 10.

Its like Body Harvest on the 64. You won't see another version of it again, and the critics can use it as a "reason" to go, "Hey look guys original Ip's, they just don't work. Keep to what sells, take no risks."

This reminds me of Quake Wars. One of the best shooters released this century, its classes, stats and so on hammered most other shooters, but its lack of promotion left it floundering in the wake of several other big games released at the same time.

Of course being released alongside TF2 with little promotion killed that game, because TF2 did many of the same things and is almost universally loved by folks that like class-based shooters.

I think you are right, Ken. The pre-order sales seem to be somewhat on the low side for RAGE: 175,000 Xbox pre-orders. In comparison, MW3 has 1.3 million, BF3 has 700,000 and Skyrim has nearly 600,000 Xbox pre-orders, even though those games are several weeks away from release. http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders.php

Not sure if anyone has seen this before, but this video never gets old: I watched this again recently and there is just so much information to learn from this guy.
