If you bought the game on Steam or are considering it, it seems that the game will unlock at midnight EST on October 4 (in the US, at least):

I'll probably get it at some point, but I am wary of slapping down $60 for a game anymore.

1 hour hands on PS3 version:

part 1: http://youtu.be/O6yvW72A8q8?hd=1

Looks like a great game and I'm surprised at the level of exploration and RPG elements. Can't wait to play it.

After watching this now I'm wishing we had ATVs in Fallout New Vegas

I'm not a big shooter fan, but I'm not averse to them either. I have no intention of getting it unless overwhelmingly positive reviews force me to notice it.

The game does look very interesting, but I will not be getting it any time soon as my gaming budget only allows for one more $60 purchase this year. And that is already spent in full on my TES V: Skyrim pre-order. I'm sure I will get it at some point when it's cheaper though.

Looks too OMG EXPLOSIONS KILL EVERYTHING for me. Resistance: Fall of Man (well if you count New Vegas--but I don't) was the last FPS that I actually enjoyed. If I see the reviewers, won't look at IGN b/c they compare everything to CoD, give the storyline some merits, I think I might buy it, but I'm with some of the others. I will probably buy Dark Souls before I even look at RAGE. I haven't even started up my Deus Ex game; I've been too busy roleplaying my last F: NV character--probably going to finish this weekend, I hope).

It's a shooter and it doesn't have even have a true multiplayer. What the hell is id Software doing?

I think you are right, Ken. The pre-order sales seem to be somewhat on the low side for RAGE: 175,000 Xbox pre-orders. In comparison, MW3 has 1.3 million, BF3 has 700,000 and Skyrim has nearly 600,000 Xbox pre-orders, even though those games are several weeks away from release. http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders.php

Not sure if anyone has seen this before, but this video never gets old: I watched this again recently and there is just so much information to learn from this guy.

Carmack is such a cool guy. He's just talking like a genius programmer and not treating his audience like they're a bunch of idiot children. Respect.

My Steam pre-load finally downloaded after some initial hiccups.

Anyone else get the Steam version?

Not as of yet, it certainly looks impressive from the videos and information I've seen, but since I rarely pre order games I don't think I will with this one. Once it comes and there is some more information it is definately something I would consider buying on PC.

I pre-ordered a hard copy of the PC version from Amazon, so I get the free upgrade to Anarchy edition and release day shipping.

At any rate, I think this game will be the definitive single player FPS experience for 2011, moreso than Crysis 2.

This reminds me of Quake Wars. One of the best shooters released this century, its classes, stats and so on hammered most other shooters, but its lack of promotion left it floundering in the wake of several other big games released at the same time.

Yay Quake Wars, such a great and fun shooter but it was so underrated...
One of the games i felt sorry about.
Hoping Rage would fill its gap for developers.

Battlefield 3 takes that (my opinion only).

But RAGE might be a great experience.

BF3 focuses more on multiplayer though, which is why I didn't mention it. I may wait a while before I buy BF3, because I never play online. I still want to experience the single player campaign however.

I'm somewhat disappointed to read the campaign is only 12 hours long. Not that I was expecting Rage to be on par with Fallout 3. I'm booked this year for big releases so Rage will have to wait awhile.

I think ID claimed the main plot was about 12 to 15 hours, plus an additonal 5 or more hours for side quests.  So all in all, the game can be up to 20 hours or more in length.

Reviewers typically just run through the main story, and don't do the side quests as they're typically time constrained.

Are the rpg elements still in the game? Crafting, currency, minigames? I am really excited if they are; I thought this game was going to be like far cry, you know, boring as ****. Let me know if this is true when yall get it.

Yeah, i've heard that apperantly the RPG mechanics are deeper than ID stated.
Not that they are at the level of other RPGs(like Say ME1 or Fallout), but they are solid enough to stand on their own.

I had a quick skim over the review, Looks like an impressive game. One thing caught my eye though. "no multiplayer" *rolls eyes* Seriously does every game now have to have multiplayer or social rankings? Really, isn't enough to have a well designed and executed game with a good storyline without elements of CoD or BF3 creeping into it, if I want to play multiplayer I would go and play those games.

1st reviews are in and the rpg elements are apparently much less than I hoped, basically it sounds like there's barely any, certainly not the equal of Deus Ex HR or Borderlands. And being ID I doubt its got the tactical elements like the Far Cry series, basically this has gone right to the back of the queu for me.
