Geez the game is buggy like hell... Getting random crashes every 30 min...
game also got some nasty textures but its patched fast with 3D card drivers.
Still there are some problems with texture loading on some RİGS but i have none after upgrading drivers.

Game is helluva fun but its screaming like "Im a consol-port!" Got only 3 choices in video options -.-

Its shocking game developers can release a game that is so broken. Like they havent got any beta tests.

Like i said before game is fun, great animations, great graphics(when they work), great world details, solid shooting and killing. with a billion bugs...

Well I find that to be common in PC games. What I find shocking is id of all studios.

Even my father who dont understand anything about comps but watching p0rn in computer, relaised the texture bugs, how couldnt you ID...

Hmm I'm having no problems at all with the 360 version.  Might just be your PC, or it was made as a console to PC port more likely than not.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues. :(

I'm playing the XBox version, and haven't had any issues after about 5 hours of gameplay. In fact, it's been extremely smooth, with the exception of the controls being WAY too sensitive, which I keep adjusting...BUT, I will say that I installed the game to my hard drive per their recommendation, which was about 22GB (or at least, that's what was estimated; I didn't actually look). I've had no lock-ups, no slowness, no skipping, no texture problems.

On a sidenote, this is a really fun game so far. I'm still getting the hang of driving the buggy (the buggy that came with the Anarchy edition seems to drive a little different than the standard one), but I'm having a great time. This feels a lot like Borderlands to me, with graphics similar to F3/F3NV. Now if only I could figure out the defibrillator, since I missed the tutorial. Hmm.

you can adjust advanced graphics options in the config file, your graphics card driver options menu and in the Steam launch options (under properties).

Try adding this text to the launch options: +cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set com_allowConsole 1 +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +ik_enablesmoothing 0 +image_usecompression 0 +jobs_numthreads 4 +mem_phymemblocksizem 3072 +m_smooth 0 +m_rawinput 1

Also you want to double check to make sure you have a folder called:

C:\\Users\\[insert your username]\\AppData\\Local\\id software\\rage

If not, you need to make the "id software\\rage" folder and subfolder. This is used for caching the megatexture file.

This engine is somewhat groundbreaking in that it allows high framerates with very high res textures and high quality lighting effects; however, the tradeoff is that parts of the texture file must be streamed because it is far too large to fit the entire file in VRAM at once (128,000 x 128,000 pixels), especially when you turn around quickly or look at something at very close distance. Since it uses OpenGL instead of DirectX, it's something of a learning experience for the video card manufacturers as well.

I never imagined I would be able to run a game at this level of texture and lighting detail on my laptop and get these high frame rates. For example, playing a game like Witcher 2, even at low settings the game is playable but at around 20-30 fps, occasionally dipping below 20, the controls don't feel as responsive as they do at higher frame rates. With ubersampling on, Witcher 2 is not even playable for most computers without dual video cards.

Hopefully the id devs are working on some tweaks to improve the texture streaming for everyone and also allow people with extreme high end desktop rigs to be able to take advantage of SLI or crossfire configurations with more available VRAM, etc.

Here is a tweak some have reported excellent results with; however I haven't tried it yet.

It is a version of the config file you can use to adjust the graphics settings and improve the texture streaming:

Thanks to quadid and others who came up with this fix before me. And thanks to FusedCore for his bugs and fixes thread.

Save this config file in valve\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\rage\\base

If you have only a 512mb video card tell me if it runs okay as this fix forces more textures into vram so they won't have to keep loading constantly. If it causes too much hitching/stuttering make sure you turn off antialiasing.

For cards with 512MB to 1.5GB of VRAM.

Bugy and bad graphics are at least of my problems. Got a high end rig but i never judge a game on its graphics, never ever.

Its the gameplay bugs send me into a "rage". It even bugs at start giving an error code #51...
Random crashes every where, sound loops/crashes. Random "things" appear from air(funny/alien textures)
Yesterday couldnt play the game without having a random crash for 30 min...

Graphical options are minor complaints, they have a long way to fix.

Edit:
BTW John Carmack admited that developing RAGE for consoles was a big mistake and future titles will put priority on PC hardware.

Well I still trust him(fanboyism at finest:wizard:) that he will start another 3d era, maybe with Doom 4.
At least some developers admit their faults and  even before the game is released...

Yes, I have the PC version.

Probably the most absolutely stunning game I have ever played on my laptop and the frame rate was very high (haven't checked in FRAPS yet, but much higher than I expected and the controls were very responsive).

@naughty99, you comment so positive and Cyberarmy so negative about Rage. I don't know who to believe!

I think its better to take a look here:

Unpleasant things can be corrected with some patches though.

To summarize my tech issues:

I had a CTD on startup and I wasn't able to launch the game initially until I installed the Oct 3 AMD hotfix.

After that I was able to play the game, it looked absolutely stunning and I got very high frame rates. No crashes at all. However, in a couple of locations such as the Ghost Hideout there was a sort of minor artifacting visible with occasional diagonal lines appearing onscreen. I tried to take a screenshot but it was so brief and rare that I was not able to do so. In any case I still enjoyed the game very much and played it for about 4 hours on release date (Oct 3).

The only other tech issue I noticed was that a couple of key bindings don't map to the NumPad.

After this, there was a new AMD driver released on Oct 4, which I installed and various users have reported numerous tweaks for the rageconfig.cfg file and the Steam launch options, including a way to force GPU transcoding for NVIDIA users. There is also a new AMD driver that will be released today (Oct 6). I have not had time to play the game since Oct 3, so I haven't tested these new tweaks/fixes yet.

I'm playing on a laptop with the following specs:

i7-820QM 1.73 GHz (3.06GHz turbo)
16GB DDR3 RAM
1GB AMD 5830m
Dual Intel X18 G2 SSDs in Raid0
1920x1080 display

Are you leaving Wellsprings for the first time? You can come and go as you please. :D

OMG, I just tried out the Mutant TV thing last night, and got my butt handed to me on the last round. Waa. I was really not prepared for that, and ran out of ammo. :(

do you know if there is a certain point where you lose your ATV if you get the garage parking space in Wellsprings?

I prefer the ATV to the dunebuggy and would like to keep it if possible

@naughty99

When you leave Wellsprings, you get to pick your vehicle, and the ATV is one of them. I don't know this for sure, but I assume it's always an option, as it's been there every time I've left.

When you're outside Wellsprings, just go in, and check the garage right away - all of your vehicles will be there.

Just got this yesterday (for 360) and have some questions:

- Guys can withstand quite a few headshots. I get that if they have helmets on, but even bare-headed enemies withstand three pistol rounds right in the face, using the monoscope. Is there location-based damage or are the normal pistol rounds just that weak?
- Do vehicles you're not using disappear if you drive out of the area on a different one? I got the one in the pictures above and it's kinda badass, but I prefer this buggy you had to get parts for, since you can handbrake slide with it. Don't have anywhere to store them yet ...

On the plus side, the graphics are awesome, especially the frame rate. I installed it and it's by far the smoothest stuff I've ever seen on the 360. If they don't take out graphics awards for 2011, I'll be really surprised.

I gave this game a 4 star rating on Amazon. It's a great, fun, beautiful game but I had to remove a star due to glaring consolization in the PC version, such as not having more advanced configuration choices.

Any way, this is the review I posted:

I haven't beaten the game yet, but insofar, I've definitely enjoyed the hours I've spent playing this game and don't regret buying it at all. The A.I is awesome in Rage, and enemies react to your attacks by dodging, ducking, hiding behind cover, fleeing etc, so good eye hand coordination is a must.

Also, when an enemy is down, it doesn't necessarily mean he's dead. He'll be dying yes, but he can still pull out a weapon and try to kill you :D The animations are great as well, much better than other lauded titles *cough* Mass Effect 2 *cough*

As for the graphics, it's a mixed bag. On one hand, the megatexture technology allows for incredible variation and detail in the game's textures which makes for a more convincing World. Basically, Rage is the best post apocalyptic rendition ever seen in a video game.. Although I haven't admittedly progressed very far yet, I can still see and appreciate the variety found in the various locations that I've been to.

On the other hand, the megatexture itself is still rather low resolution in a number of areas (mostly interior) due to heavy compression for the consoles. Supposedly the game engine constantly and dynamically adjusts texture detail on the fly to maintain both visual fidelity and performance; a great thing to have when playing on machines with low memory ie consoles.

But for modern gaming PCs, it's not really necessary....which is why there is a CFG hack out already which overrides the game's dynamic adjustments, so you can enjoy Rage at full quality settings. If you have a mid range GTX 400 or 500 series card with at least 1GB of VRAM, I HIGHLY SUGGEST generating a CFG file override by following the directions in this guide:

http://www.geforce.c...w-simple-tweaks

The game will look noticeably better. If you want to take it further, you can try using this CFG file which tweaks the settings even further for enhanced visual detail:

seta image_anisotropy "4"
seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"

If you play at 2560x1600 like I do, then you don't need to set multisampling above 4. But if you play at a lower resolution, you can set the MS up to 32x I believe.. But with these settings, the game looks absolutely beautiful!

As for texture streaming problems, I believe most of these problems have been fixed by both AMD and Nvidia with the latest drivers. I'm using 285.38 myself, and I haven't had any issues at all. Make sure you use the update function immediately after installing the drivers though, as there was a profile update released by Nvidia on October 4.

GPU transcoding must also be turned on, as it helps reduce the texture streaming time significantly!

PC specs:

Core i7 @ 4.3ghz
12GB DDR3 2000
GTX 580 SC SLi

I was so hyped by this game and now I dont know if to buy it.
I'm on a PC: Phenom II X4 970 64bit Win7 GeForce GTX 460, 8GB RAM...

So will I have the texture and tearing problems? Crashes? Will I be able to update/patch/fix the game somehow?

I am considering torrenting the game to check how it runs (but the 18GB of d/l...scares...me...)... or if it runs at all. If it behaves the way they show on YT I think I'll pass the "latest IDs wonder".

So I need an opinion, is the game broken and deserves the 3.3 on metacritic?
Can the problems be fixed without much hassle? In other words is it worth buying or should I just skip it, forget and swallow the bitter taste of dissapointement?

Much obliged.
