I wouldn't even say it's "white" features, but people have a tendency to find facial structures that adhere to the Golden Ratio to be more aesthetically pleasing.  Vega's face, as seen so far, is "off" in regards to his nose/mouth, and probably in other ways too.

I'm not saying everyone should have the same sort of face, that would be boring, but most folks are wired to prefer symmetry.

I was always interested in him on the principle that he is a bioware character. Then the comic came out and I rolled my eyes at how he was portrayed, but I chalk that up to trying to distill his character in a few pages. >.>

I'm still interested but I don't think he will knock me away from garrus. Then again he doesn't have to, as long as bioware fleshes out the friendship aspect of characters.
