I love the Dalish, and I love Merrill's character.  I took every possible elven phrase I could find on the Wiki and spliced it into a new song.   It is on You Tube, listed as "Vir Assan- Merrill's song_0002"  under the following link:

I hope you like it.  I just wrote the song for fun and because I enjoy playing around with languages.  If you enjoy it please let me know.  I am not very experienced with putting multiple media together so the resolution of the screenshots is not great, but it tells the story of how Merrill meets Hawke and ends up in Kirkwall.

**Update Dec 2011:  A fantastic new video has been made for this song, thanks to Leolein! The link on YouTube is:

If you like Merrill's character then you will love Leolein's video.

I like that song and enjoyed it. You give a good impression of the sadness of the Dalish and their hope to find their home again. May I ask how long you work on it?

Thank you Sindariel! It took about 3 weeks to write the song and record on Protools. I came up with the melody in 2003, I had written a song called "Love and War", and it was about how sad I felt when my husband left for the war and I found out shortly after he left that I was pregnant. That song was much slower, and all a-cappela, with no drums. The words for this one were harder, as I love studying different foreigh languages, but I could not find alot of elven language out there that is specific to Dragon Age. I took everything I could find and tried to splice it together to make it coherent without trying to sound too much like "In Uthenara" (which is a gorgeous song by the way). Then I had to learn how to use Windows Movie Maker for the first time, so that added another week. I probably should have spent more time on the slideshow part, but I desperately wanted to share this song with other Dalish Fans.

The rough translation to English is below:
"Way of the Arrow, Way of the Bow, Way of the Forest and the Elder Tree
We are the last of the Elvenan. In our Aravels, we tell our story.
Goodbye to this place we love,
we will greet the friend of the dead and god of the dead
We will go together and write in blood
Elder, your time has come, your eyes need resting
We will plant a tree over your grave and tell others at the clan gathering.
Way of the Arrow, Way of the Bow, Way of the Forest and the Elder Tree
We are the last of the Elvenan. In our Aravels, we tell our story.

Thank you for that informations and for the translation. I wish there were more informations about the elven language of DragonAge. Language descriptions and such projects like your song helps to tell more "realistic" stories about the characters in DragonAge. Your slide show is fine. May be there will be a song including a video in future? ;-)

Hi creative buddies! Thanks for encouraging me to write another song... just uploaded a new song I recorded onto You Tube, the title is Arlathan and you can find it by that tag.
03/20/2012-- uploaded a better audio mix and better pictures...

Or you can find it on my channel josieevelync. This is all home recorded, not for profit, for you to use as background music to your own videos if you wish (send me a message and I will send you the MP3). The song is intended to make you think you are either in the Fade, at a place where the veil is thin, or looking through time back to the original Arlathan mentioned by the Dalish Elves. Tried to keep the melody in theme with the whole DA/NWN chord progressions. It is not really mixed down or mastered, but I hope you enjoy it, would love to hear if you like it. I am terrible at making videos, so it is just a few pictures of "Dalish/Graveyard" type scenes.

Here we go, song number 3 after many late nights and margaritas. I decided it was time to write a love song. The title of the song is "Ma Ar Lath", and it is on Youtube under "Emma Salath Dalish Love song" or the link is
