About Alastair, he expected him to die in battle with the rest of the grey wardens. But his plan was foiled by Flemeth, it is hard to expect a giant bird swooping down and plucking him from sure death.

Eamon was on the entire other side of Fereldan.
It was hardly done subtly. The dude he sent to do the deed was hardly a seasoned professional and he knew who he was working for.

I'm not arguing that Loghain is smart!Valmy wrote...

How exactly would you kill a Grey Warden within your own camp, with all the Grey Wardens in Ferelden there, with the king hanging around the Grey Wardens? It's not exactly something that can be brushed aside, especially with the king still alive and a fanboy.Valmy wrote...

Oh yes, he could have had Alistair attacked inside the encampment. That wouldn't have raised suspicion at all
Huh...but he was already attacking Eamon...why would he be cautious here...
Well anyway if he knew about Alistair he simply messed up I guess.

Invite the Wardens for "pre battle tactics planning". Have a toast for victory with a slow acting poison. Cry crocodile tears after the Wardens keel over and perish in otherwise indeed victorious battle.Dark83 wrote...

Hardly necessary to lose bulk of your forces to achieve such simple goal.

What, all of them? Even Loghain can't be so stupid as to kill off a contingent of men on the cusp of an impending battle, to kill one man who doesn't even want to be King.

I was under impression the contingent is actually very few Wardens present in Ferelden, and that Loghain was attempting to get rid of them all not just Alistair selectively. Hence the suggestion.
If it was just Alistair then well, do the same thing except with the poison only in his cup. Same end effect.

Well, some people seem to think that he somehow lured the darspawn and made them guard the tower of Ishal.
That is only two steps away from the twirly-mustache villain.
