That's odd. Pretty much all smokers I know regret starting and recognize it as a bad habit.

But only when its already too late and the negative side effects kick in, much to their surprise..........

It's amazing how smoking is viewed so negatively nowadays.
I wonder if with enough propaganda could drinking alcohol incite the same negative reaction.

Yes. "Propaganda" is the reason smoking is viewed negatively. Image IPB

Smoking is disgusting. No one wants to lick an ash tray so why would you want to kiss one?

Why yes of course, that's the only reason. What other reason could there be? Image IPB

You guys are turning this into quite a debate, and btw I am a smoker, as for the smoking shepard i imagined a paragon (little on the dark side) female sentinel trusting in technology and cynical (and for some reason i can see her use the the dual omni-blade (cant wait for that) while smoking a cigarette B))

I imagine it's a large factor.
I don't know how it is in other countries but in mine all smoking ads have the message "Smoking is bad and you should feel bad" and all cigarette packets have labels saying "Smoking: You're murdering your kids" coupled with a picture of an icky foot or something.

And just to clarify: I am not a smoker and would happily live in a world without it.

Don't tell that to a smoker because they'll argue with you for hours on why your wrong.

Well you are wrong in this instance as all the ill effects of smoking have been eliminated in the ME universe.

I'm pretty sure we're talking real life in that instance up there. I was, I'm sure King was as well.

I don't like alcohol either, makes people act stupid. However, technically I wouldn't know the point to drinking as I'm not of age to drink, so I don't.

But smoking, name one good thing smoking does to out weight all it's negative effects. Nothing, nothing at all. There is no benefit, only consquence.

Yea, well I'm 18 and all my friends in my age group aren't old enough to use their heads to realize that. I give them crap for it all the time but nothing I say makes a dent. They don't care. I even tell them one day they will and by then it'll be too late. Of course they don't say much but give me angry stares.

You can smoke in the privacy and comfort of your own home where I live, and that's it, except for casinos and VA hospitals (what?). I admit, I was a smoker when the law was passed, and I was none too happy about it at the time, but I switched to electronic, then quit entirely.

It's an awful, awful habit, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Lung cookies are not sexy. Image IPB

Let TIM keep killing himself off with it; I'd prefer my femSheps be smoke-free.

I laughed. Surprised people generally don't view cigarette addiction as an issue of the addicted, and not the corperation. But people will always look for scapegoats for their problems.

It gives you a pleasurable buzz when combined with alcohol.  Worth it?  No.  Not in my opinion.

This is veering further and further away from anything related to Mass Effect, though.

Yeah, except the gag was that he was concerned about doing so around explosives, not because he cared about smoking in and of itself.

Ever been on a road trip with a smoker friend going cold turkey?

Pumped that bastard full of nicotine as soon as I could and I sure as hell don't regret it.

You're mistakening whiskey with ale.

Batarians gulp ale.

Humans gulp whiskey + brandy and champagne.

Asari sip martinis, momossas, and mojitos.

Krogan gargle the strongest whiskey only.

Turians drink beer and vodka.

Salarians drink water, because they're amphibians.
