Look at the disc; if it's scratched you could try to find a shop which can polish (you'll have to excuse me if I'm using the wrong word) it and if it's dirty try to clean it with washing-up liquid.

If the problem still occurs you can download Origin from Origin and register your cd-key there and download the game. Since you won't be needing the disc to play trough Origin it should solve your problem.

Also: Someone suggested in another thread to buy a new CD drive. A little extreme, I'd say, but some CD drives (a lot of them apparently) don't play nice with ME2 (or 1). If going that route, I'd suggest lots of reading/research first to make sure it's a good, supported CD drive.

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;

2) Please post a full problem report as per this thread: http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299

i'm having this problem, too. I don't have discs. I bought this on Steam when it came out, and now it magically moved to Origin (grrrr). I get this error when I try to launch with both clients. The only answers I have right now are geared towards people with actual discs. Can anyone help me out here?

This is not an illegal copy.

How could it "magically" move to Origin? Steam and EA are not linked, and Steam would not download and install another game distribution package without your express permission. Someone has been tinkering with your PC and caused this to happen.

Strip them both out, and only download from the distributor that you prefer.

You know, how Origin searches your computer when you install it and puts EA games in its menu? I installed Origin for games that required it, The Old Republic preorder, and maybe BF3 if i buy that. I bought ME2 through Steam, and reasonably expect it to work when I launch through steam. I also would reasonably expect Origin to launch this game if it automatically searches my computer and places it on its own menu (my explanation of "magically, get it?)

Anyway, I deleted it from Steam and am now installing through Origin. Its a pain, and I'm finding others with this problem too.

This forum has nothing to do with Origins, and not many of us use it. Personally, I buy hardcopy and do not rely on dodgy digital distributions.
Any hassles with Origins, and any changes it makes to your system, I suggest you take up with EA support.
