Hello!

First of all, sorry if I'm not posting this in the proper forum, but I don't know in which one would this fit. Right now, I'm playing The SoU campaign, and I'm at the Ruins in the Interlude. I'm that kind of person, who often uses quick save, even in combat, and make normal saves rarely.
So I was in the middle of the fight at the portal room, I still had lots of HP, I saved the game, and in the same moment, the grey slaad hit me very hard, and I died. When I load the save game, I'm immediately dead. I know, it's a huge fail from me.
So, I've started searching stuff on the internet. I found a save game editor, opened my save with it, and restored my HP to the max with it, but it didn't really work, I still die after loading.
Do I need to load my last manual save, which was made about 3-4 hours before, or is there any solution that might work?

Thanks in advance!

3-4 hours isn't much, since you could re-do it in only one hour now that you know everything.
No tech here but I have a bad feeling about this, since I believe your death was "calculated" before it really occured, a few seconds before you actually see yourself dying. 'meaning it's probably written in your savegame...
I would try going "God mode" through debugging if I were you, right when... "this only quicksave of yours" :police:... starts .
(You may find the "console commands" in my list in my signature).
This would work only if the game gives you enough time to pause right before you die, when reloading.
But... your death is probably known to them all already...
(For the records, you can press your 'pause' button (space-bar?) while the game is loading. It's gonna pause right when it starts. Faster than your finger.)
But can't you simply resurrect in SoU?

This is the SoU forum, so you're in the right place. You would get more answers maybe with posting in the "general" one as this problem is not 100% SoU related. It could happen anywhere.

Now, save! ;)
(I save at every new map, and sometimes I even save more than I play.)

I tried pausing it while loading, but I was dead already. As far as I know, you can only resurrect in Chapter 1, with Drogan's ring, at least there was no 'respawn' option, just 'load game' and 'exit game'. Seems like I'll have to do it again. Anyway, thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. :)

Been there, done that.  It's happened to many of us at one time or another.  As jml, recommended... SAVE OFTEN! ;)

Also, due to how the game engine operates it is always possible that you can kill a hostile and then your PC may die once the remainder of the round completes.  For instance, if there were some flurries left in the round for an enemy which has died, the game will finish the calculations which may well result in killing your PC if it had very low HP at that point.  It happens, not often, but it does happen.  It's best to allow sufficient time for the complete round action to finish before saving or a similar undesirable result may occur.

Also, there are sometimes areas which have been scripted to disallow Respawn, though I don't recall any such areas in SoU.  It depends on how the designer of the module decided to handle toon death.

Hip, you're my kind of guy. If I ever was into guys, so don't get too excited.
But I fall in love with a bear once... So maybe there is still a chance for you and I after all...
I don't know about living in a caban in some frozen mountains though.
Do you have water, at least?

*** I checked my files. It was a bearess. Sorry.

Here comes the Trick Mistress.
I just can't believe that...
That worked... You're alive, Petzakecske.
Even with the Death panel on, you're still able to debug...
Allright, I decided, next life, I go for woman.
I should have remembered when my henchies healed/resurrected me with that panel on...
Bravo, lady!

Hip, how does she make us look like? Men, I suppose...
Now, I'm truly desperate... Thanks, Shia. :D

Ahhh... j-m... only now you suspect men are the product of a genetic recessive gene?

Don't you just love the explicit way she instructs us?
"Load
Die
etc... etc...
Have fun!"

Shia is one of my heroines on a rather short list, a bearess of distinction that I would proudly share an aperitif if she ever consented to dare my den (fat chance!).  BTW, it is furnished in Danish modern motif with a real comfy fur-lined recliner. *lol*

Are you saying men are nothing but a "brouillon", a draft, for women?
Maybe, maybe you're right...
Well, I've seen many proofs of this in my life... my lif as a guy...
That kind of rings some bell, deep inside of me... like when you speak the truth, which you always do.
I'm even more desperate now than ever.
Thank you for shearing this.
You really made my day. :(

Well, there you go. I never once imagined someone would try to compliment me by comparing me to a bear. Isn;t life full of surprises? *laughing*

Brouillon? bouillon? I heard that rumour... something about rib bones?

Have fun :)

Try lowering the difficulty level, maybe the blow damage would be re-calculated, it is a fast thing to check out

Blow damage is already calculated with the attack roll.  It is merely delayed until later.

The leader should be in area 6 of that map. He isn't a spawn or anything, so it's not as if a script could have misfired and not created him. His name is Urko.

If you say you haven't seen him and you haven't come across his remains (he has a hammer and a plot item you will recognize), then you need to be more exact about what happened in the crypt. Did you talk to someone behind the door to room 6 when you approached that room? What happened from there?

You might also try to see if you've already killed him by the following. At the chat line enter the following three lines
##DebugMode 1
##dm_getmodulevarint q5_Urko_Status
##DebugMode 0
After the second line, the value of q5_Urko_Status should be displayed in the combat log. Post that number (0, 1, or 2, I think) and that might help someone here see what's going on.

@ grommitt
Are you playing with Tony K's AI?
'cause if you are, and depending on the options you chose while installing it, that kobold could be almost anywhere on that map, if you allowed (the option for) foes to open the doors, even the locked and trapped ones, for instance.

Good point, jml. In addition, Tony K's AI let's stealthy characters be stealthy, so if grommitt's character doesn't have high enough listen or spot skills, it's possible to miss a hidden NPC. Urko has a relatively high stealth ability, so one has to be thorough to make sure he isn't tucked away in a corner somewhere in stealth mode.

Grommitt, another way to check what's going on is to open your saved game using the DM Client. Even without your PC logged in, you can use the DM character to check on the NPCs.

1) Open the DM Client and load your saved game.
2) Use the Chooser and expand (click the + char) the Elven Crypt, Lower Level entry.
3) Expand the Creatures list and, near the bottom, click on Urko.
4) Click the leftmost button at the top of the chooser, the one that says "Goto". That will move your ghost-like DM character so that he is standing right inside of Urko, wherever that may be.

If step 3) doesn't list Urko, he may either A) already be dead (and I don't know if the DM tool makes it easy to find his remains, but they will still be laying around until you've emptied them) or B) he may have wandered off the Elven Crypt Lower Level map. In the latter case, you can use the Find tool in the Chooser (the one with the magnifying lens icon) to find where he currently is. Just click the icon and type Urko. The Chooser will find the first creature called Urko in any area in the module and you can use Goto to see where he's at.

Anyway, if you can find him using the DM client (and the DM dude can move around while the game is paused, so none of the NPCs will have moved from their saved game positions), you can quit the DM Client and load the saved game regularly and you will at least know where Urko was at the time of the saved game.

I never tried that DM Client.app
If I do, it doesn't see any savegame (greyed box) and the multiplayer button is the only one available. Now, if I press it, nothing happens...
Oh well... ;-)

When you press the Multiplayer button, it will take you to the Player Login screen. If you've never played multiplayer before, you may have to create a new player account (it's been a long time, but I recall that it was really easy), otherwise, just hit OK. It will pause while it tries to authorize the player name (which it can't do since the June 2011 hack), then it will say that it couldn't contact the master server and some MP services may not be available. Ignore that and click OK. Then you should be at a screen where an option exists to "Load Internet/LAN Game" and a SP saved game can be loaded (much as when using Shia's trick to modify characters).

Yep, only it stays on that first "account" screen for ever, (Mac bug?) unlike in a multiplayer session launching, which works fine.
But it doesn't matter really, as I believe all I truly cared about was having you trying to help me I guess.
Nothing but the twisted french (pleonasm) way to say thank you. ;)

;) Happy to have tried to help. Maybe it is a Mac thing, though I checked before posting that last note and didn't see anything about DM Client oddness in the Mac FAQ.

BTW, as someone who often finds that I have used "an army of words to escort a corporal of thought", I appreciate the pleonasm. :-)

Don't be so modest, Z: if Napoleon ever had as many men in his army than you have words in yours, even MrZork would be speaking french right now, with a black beret on the head and a baguette in your left arm... and Brigitte Bardot in the right one! A true nightmare.
Nighty night.

If I remember my high school history, Napoleon's army was supposed to have had over half a million men at its peak, though maybe most of them were not French. I have never counted the words in my head, but I doubt they come close. However, I suspect that if the Grande Armée had consisted of even just 50,000 baguettes and 50,000 Bardots (mid-1960s edition), I might be speaking French today without a shot ever having been fired.
