ME is a sp experience, and will remain as such.

Im pretty sure this "killer new feature" is nothing special, maybe it's 3D, or some kinect thing, but i would like to have modding tools to create custom levels; audio recording software to make my own voice for the game, or something in the likes of CN.

My guess is it will have something to do with Kinect since the magazine is called Xbox World and Kinect is only for the Xbox 360. The MP Pass listed in the ad could be a mistake.

As someone from South Africa, I think I should mention that you guys shouldn't take the promo image too seriously. BT Games tends to jump the gun when it comes to major releases, it's very possible they mistook what may be ME3's version of a Cerberus Network code to be a multiplayer pass. I'd say leave all potential seppuku plans on the back buner til October 25th rolls around.

Personally, I have COD:Black Ops and Halo Reach for all my multiplayer needs. But at some point, someone WILL VERY LIKELY make a multiplayer game in the Mass Effect universe. People on the forums will have to come to terms sooner or later........

I don't think most people are opposed to a ME game with multiplayer. While I probably would not play it, as I'm mostly looking for great SP experiences, I think a good MP game set in the ME universe could be very successful. BUT, and that's what the complaints are about, there are many fans who, for various reasons, think it's not a good idea to add some multiplayer feature to ME3. ME3, the game that is supposed to be the grand finale of a great SINGLEPLAYER  trilogy. Way I see it:

Great multiplayer = huge waste of resources
Bad multiplayer = smaller waste of resources

To make a MP feature acceptable to me the SP would need to be absolutely flawless (and regardless of my high expectations I honestly don't see that happening), because otherwise every dollar and hour spent on the MP would feel like it was taken away from the SP resources.

First reaction? Ready to cancel my CE pre-order. EA fbars another studio. Want to go back to bed.

Second reaction? I had a lot of concerns about ME2 before I actually got my hands on it, and wound up very happy.

Third... I still hope this is unsubstantiated rumor and a communications snafu, but I think it would have been denied by now if it were. Back to wanting to go back to bed. What a mistake, Bioware... what a mistake.

It is possible. At the same time it's hard to believe they went from 'Cerberus Network or something of that kind' to 'Online Multiplayer Pass'. Not to mention, rumors say EA wasn't exactly secretive about MP with the retailers.

Just to weigh in on the whole MP speculation.....

It would be astonishingly bull headed of Bioware/EA to force, and I make no apologies for the verbose, MP on ME3 after your own staff has gone on record saying that they have investigated integrating a multiplayer component into the ME3 franchise, and I'm paraphrasing a bit here-"And couldn't find a way to make it fun".

I hard for me to imagine their own staff saying it sucks and jam it in for reasons I can not fathom. "O.K., they did not say 'sucks' , just not fun"

I am having difficulty finding the exact quote and from who, I believe I saw the excerpt from the interview/talk/twit whatever on one of the online gaming mag sites, IGN/Gamespy/Gamespot what have you. Maybe someone can help me out with that one.

(Edit : Correction, IIRC it was relating to ME3, not the franchise as a whole as I remember the statement)

saw something like that in an interview with casey hudson at comicon, or the other con thing (sorry can't remember). gonna go check.

edit: found this http://beefjack.com/...r-mode-surface/ but i am not sure of the sources cited, and this from same source http://beefjack.com/...-3-demo-coming/ . i think we will find out one way or another this week at bioware pulse episode. this second later article talks about demo with beta mmo. hmmm

Naw, note of those.  Your thinking of the following quote from Casey H.
"We've been trying to think of a way that makes
sense for people to experience Mass Effect with their friends. We
haven't yet come up with a way to do that, so we don't have anything to
announce at this time. But, obviously, multiplayer is something we want
to do more of in the future as a company"

Thats just more vague PR nonesense from the CH.  Par for the course.

It might have been this quote I was thinking of, or something close to it.  This one was from Ryan Warden.
"I mean, it's a big
universe, with a great story and tons of interesting characters, so why
wouldn't we want to share that in the multiplayer space? But we've still
not figured out the right way to do it. There is always a way to do
things."

And thats from Mid Augest of this year, just six weeks or so ago.  Not the reference I was looking for, but it would still be bafling for Bioware to include MP at a time when your staff is of the firm belief they have not figured out the 'right' way to do it, but ram-rod it anyway.  It would be such a colossul diservice not only to ME and Bioware fans, but for the people out there that actually want a solid MP component.  (Watch some knucklehead suggest they went from that to multiplayer game of the year in 2-4 weeks flat)

That being said, and giving Bioware the benifit of the doubt-I believe the whole new feature thing is something other then multiplayer.  If you ask me what I think? Well then I'm not sure honestly.

Technically all he said is it's true that it's "very possible" they got it wrong; I wouldn't read more into it than that. Javier is a remarkably level-headed guy. I find it reassuring, but I'm hoping once they wake up in Alberta or wherever they are they'll officially deny/clarify this.

Yeah, I also hope that the announcement wont have anything to do with mp. I liked the idea that they might make mp Mass Effect game AFTER Mass Effect 3...

I'll put it simply enough, if multiplayer is in ME3 ity makes Bioware liars. They have repeatedly said will be no multiplayer in ME3, if turns out they lied (no misconceptions there since they said many times will be no mulitplayer) then nothing they say will be trustworthy ever again. They lose respect and lose trust. On this basis I believe that the magazine has made a mistake and for Biowares sake I hope thats the case.

They've never outright stated there is no multiplayer, just that they're focusing on the SP experience.  I do not want multiplayer in ME3, but if it happens, I'll wait and judge it when it comes out.  Though, I'd rather them have an online feature in a spin-off game or something, just not in this trilogy.

Maybe that's why they keep stating "this is the best time to come in the series", possibly hinting at multiplayer, not just the galatic war.   I should probably be more open-minded because Bioware has rarely let me down (DA2, lol), but you never know.

My brethren, they have never said ME3 will have no MP. Never. All they've done is professionally redirect and deflect the question. They've simply dodged it, that's all.

@ Dragoonlordz -- we clearly agree on the fundamental issue but... can you find any quotes where Bioware actually says "no multiplayer in ME3"? I've seen quotes where they said they'd like multiplayer but can't figure out how to make it fun, but that's very different from saying "it will not be included in ME3".

No they didn't. They've said many times how they're working to ensure SP experience is oh so amazing and how they tried to incorporate MP but it wasn't fun but they never said magical words "there'll be no MP in ME3".

Yes, misconceptions.  They've never once actually stated there wouldn't be multiplayer.  Every time it's come up they've dodged it with stuff like "We're focusing on single-player."
