I knew this would ****ing happen. The South African ad does not help. You really can't deceive yourself people, multiplayer is in, it is so hard to stay optimistic. I would say some real nasty stuff right now and to Casey as well but it's not worth the ban.

That's a pretty bad cover. Wheres Commander Shepard? All I see is some random woman wearing his armor.

Ergh, hush Minos. Don't make us think Bioware are keeping quiet because it could potentially hurt their sales.

Shush. :?

like femshep on the cover an all still i will not change from the old default it seems not natural sice i played 1500 +/- hrs with the old femshep.

only mp i would even think of suporting is that the other players (2 extra players) play as the squad members and has no say or other functions in the game and stor other than combat culd be fun. so you can take two frends along on the ride

why include mp in this game when EA has Battlefield 3 for that

they can instead give dice the rights to make a Mass effect: batllefield game

Don't care, it's hard to see if games these days are for our entertainment or just tools to rob us of our money. The videogame industry is just terrible. You can even pay for a full game on the spot now, you have fork out even more later on after purchasing the game just to actually complete the maingame.

What game made you fork over more to complete the main game?

Seeing as how the main game is the one that came on the disk.

Are you, like, always pissed off or something?

I'm not arguing that the game industry is a piece of sh*t, but seriously, I don't think I've seen one happy post from you, ever.

You know, I have to say that a co-op mode akin to Horde and Firefight would be pretty damn cool. Nobody says you have to play with randoms, people. Imagine getting some friends together and doing that, it'd be pretty neat.

That said, I don't think it'll be anything multiplayer.

FozQuest.

Was a terrible game and I won't play it again.

I've yet to play, purchase, or hear of a game where you had to do that.

Also, seriously? You all really think it's MP?

No, screw all those major demo-events and games-con type events! Those are terrible places to reveal a radically new feature to the series!

We should totally wait for a 2nd-rate magazine to reveal it!

Am I the only one who thinks multiplayer for ME 3 could have huge potential? Wouldn't it be great if we could take our builds from SP to MP and vice versa and earn experience by playing both modes. Having a variety of classes and play styles that uses the RPG and customisation methods could really make ME 3 an interesting edition to the online space.

It doesn't work that way. The current powers are immensely overpowered in a competitive multiplayer setting. For a frame of reference, imagine playing Halo where your opponent has active camo virtually the entire map. That is essentially the Infiltrator with the exception they would spawn with a sniper rifle, making it all the more broken. Remember, you cannot locate them on your radar if tactical cloak is active. Charge is another problem, as it negates any attack once the animation triggers, stuns the opponent upon connect and puts them at lethal shotgun range. Adrenaline Rush is outright impossible as you cannot slow down real time. They would make it make it more of a haste effect, although I am not certain how feasible that would be.

Case in point, the classes in multiplayer would have to undergo significant alternation for balance purposes. This in turn could hinder the single player for a few reasons. The most noteworthy would be the available disc space, while other the obvious dual work necessary to accommodate two completely different sets of mechanics.

If the multiplayer is wholly standalone, that begs the question of what purpose it serves. The only reason to implement it would be to attract FPS gamers, convincing them to spend less time on Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield and Gears of Wars. All four of those games place multiplayer at the forefront of their design, it is the absolute make or break of the game for the most part, whereas Mass Effect wants to sell its story. FPS gamers are quite vocal in their hatred for lengthily cutscenes and ample dialogue sessions, both being a hallmark of this series. Why would they play less of games that are developed specific with their interests in mind, to play a game that only a small portion is directed to them?

I do believe Mass Effect has the potential for a truly unique multiplayer however if BioWare wants to compete with the juggernauts in the industry, they need to put their whole development focus on multiplayer, not a mere fraction.

The obvious solution to avoid the whole OP-ness is to play as squadmates against AI opponents.  That way you don't have to worry about time dialation or how ridiculously unfair warp-bombing someone would be.

I'll call this - voice support for dialogue, as in, you can say Shep's phrases and not use the dialogue wheel.

That's already been confirmed... it was at E3 for Kinect.

Yay, I failed - thought I didn't know that announcement, so I got it right in a way :D

What I hope it will be: space combat.

What it will really be: multiplayer.

Only on BSN would we think:

Killer New Feature=multiplayer...even when we don't want it.

Trying not to but the South Africa Multiplayer ad shook me up.  I think we have to face the facts, chances are it's coming no matter what.  It certain follows the trends to fps gameplay.

Facts? What facts?

As nobody has posted "OMG this thread again, BW have denied MP a billion times", I'd like to point out that, despite a few rather vague posts (for example: "we are focusing on single player" ) when asked about MP, Casey did post something a few months ago* that, imo, pretty much ruled out MP. It wasn't as clear cut as "there is no MP in ME3", but it did seem to indicate that MP would not be a feature. Of course if BW could answer a straight question with a yes or no, we wouldn't have this uncertainty.

*I'll have a go at finding it, but it's the hotest 1st of October on record in the UK, and I'm feeling a tad lethargic!

Anyways, I doubt that multiplayer would effect single player in anyway. Wasn't Bioware Montreal made to make multiplayer? If so, Edmonton would make single player, while Montreal would make the multiplayer.

You still have to worry about time dilation, surely?  Unless your adrenaline rush works for all PCs.

Anyone that thinks BW would hide a MP feature from E3, Gamescom, and all the other major events they did over the summer, just to reveal it for Xbox world, is kidding themselves.

It's NOT mp. ME3 will NOT be MP, it would've been announced already at one of their major exposure events. They are, however, working on a MP title for ME. Count on it.

I'm hoping it's a story-based co-op, à la Resident Evil 5, where your friends can take over the squadmates in combat.

Or ponies.
