Seeing as that the Grey Warden HQ in Ferelden is now Vigil's Keep in Amaranthine and Soldier's Peak is now vacant, would be improbable for The Warden to convince Anora/Alistair to give the fortress to the Drydains and make it a bannorn/arling?

1) From surviving records, it is clear that King Arland was a black spot on Ferelden's history and restoring a title to the family that stood against his tyranny would be seen as a sign of good will and maturity on the part of the king/queen.

2) It would provide another strategic point for Highever's teryner.  Apart from Castle Cousland, the only other fort in that area is West Hill and to the east, the only arling is Amaranthine and look how well that worked out.

3) Increased commerce for Ferelden, it is mentioned in the History of the Drydens that the family possesses strong financial and merchant ties in a few spots outside Ferelden.  This could lead to Soldier's Peak additionally becoming a central point of trade and bringing more money into the economy that is still suffering from the aftermath of the blight.

4) There are only five known arlings in Ferelden: Amaranthine which belongs to the Wardens, Denerem, West Hills, South Reach and Redcliffe.  All of which are located in the south or the east with none strictly north.  Having Soldier's Peak in the north as an arling would further strengthen the representation of the bannorn and provide protection for any bannorns that lie there.

5) Of all the nobility in Ferelden, the Drydens would remain the most trustworthy ally of the royal family apart from the teryns.  If restored title and given the fort, the Drydens would remain indebted to the Ferelden royalty so long as they prove themselves to not go down Arland's path (judging from the epilogue even Anora turns out to be a good queen).

Thoughts? Does this sound ludicrous?

Anora probably not, but Alistair I think would especially since he is most likely with you and has knowledge of the place and it's history.

Why not Anora? She's not a strong Warden-fan, but she'd probably see the pragmatic advantages, no?

It's a matter of whether or not she knows about it...

Unless she marries a warden, there's a good chance all she would hear about Soldier's peak is that some merchant family are using it as a base of operations...

She probably, if anything, would look to elevating one of the northern banns to the new arling as she doesn;t know the Drydens

Considering a Cousland only knows that Dryden is "a black name", it's quite likely that Anora doesn't know much more about it, considering the events happened long before she was born.

This is, in reality, simply the result of releasing new lore after the original story is established. When DAO was released, there was no Soldier's Peak. Therefore granting the Wardens Amaranthine made perfect sense.

AFTER you add Soldier's Peak to the story, it makes no sense. But the devs can't rewrite everything when they add new downloadables. So granting Amaranthine to the Wardens stayed in the story simply because it was already written into the game.

What makes NO sense is Awakening taking place in Amaranthine. It should've been at the Peak since at that point the Peak was canon. But Amaranthine was canon too and it gave the writers another "save the city" plot. Anyway . . .
