Had you this ability in the game are there any characters in particular you would have conscribed?
  • Dwyn
  • Bann Teaghan
  • Gilmore (if hes alive)
  • Isabela
  • Cullen (maybe if he calms down)
  • The other knight (not Murdoc) in Redcliffe may seem useful..
  • .....SANDAL :wizard:

Any interesting possibilites? You thought of or wish you could do?

I don't think I'd actually have conscripted anyone (I wouldn't be able to do that to them) but I might have given an offer to a couple people.

EDIT: Oh, and as you said, Sandal. **** yes. He killed 30+ darkspawn by himself.

Ser Cauthrien. Have you seen how well she fights?

PC: Ser Cauthrien, that Broodmother must be placed in Fort Drakon immedately.

Ser Cauthrien: Hold there, abomination. By order of my superior, you will stand down or I will slay you.

Broodmother: *icky screeching noises*

Ser Cauthrien: How dare you! *one shots tentacle* *one shots tentacle* *one shots tentacle* *one shots tentacle* *triple shots Broodmother*

Jowan, possibly Gorim (would give him the choice at least)

Ah, yeah, Ser Cauthrien. She actually doesn't even seem that bad, just really loyal to Loghain.

The Dwarf at the Provings that said he wanted to join! I had hoped I did recruit him since after I beat him I said something to that effect!

Oh and Sten. I was heartbroken using the Right of conscription on the Mother failed. :( I really wanted to invoke that at some point.

I agree with Ser Cauthrien. Also Anora; she looks good in her battle armor, though I'd demand a new hairstyle; the buns don't do it for me.

Other than that, Merrill from the Dalish Origins. I like her attitude.

Jowan also seems like he might be a good recruit, but the blood magic could prove troublesome, not to mention the fact that Wynne would probably go berserk and Alistair wouldn't be particularly pleased. I'd only do it with the Mage origin though, otherwise he's fairly meaningless to you.

I don't think Anora would allow it.

Well, she doesn't have a choice. Remember, from either the codex or a loading screen ( I don't remember) it said they even recruit princes. She wouldn't have much of a choice.

I assume Maria meant Anora wouldn't allow me to demand a new hairstyle.

I say she wouldn't have a choice when my stealthy rogue sneaks up on her in her sleep witha pair of scissors, or smooth-talks Cuathrien into pinning her down. Anora would look cute with a short boy-cut.

Oh. Hey, you can always lie and say that Grey Wardens don't allow that type of hair for some obscure tactical reason. It could work...

Maybe, but where's the fun in that?

True. I'll admit, seeing Cauthrien hold down Anora while the PC cuts her hair would probably be hilarious.

Yes, they can recruit princes, but they can't force someone to join. Moreover, there's a difference between recruiting a prince or recruiting a queen.

"Ser Cauthrien, Loghian recently told me that hairstyle was popular in Orlias. He HATES that hairstyle."

Blood magic is allowed in the Grey Wardens. Avernus proves it and Riordan says so.

While you do have a point with the prince-queen thing, yes, they CAN force people to join. In all the origins if you refuse to join, Duncan conscripts you.

I never said it wasn't allowed, I just said it could prove troublesome, what with the templars not liking it and the fact that Wynne attacks you if you admit to being a blood mage (I think, that might just be at the circle tower).

Does the Right of Conscription not work on royalty? That would be one of the allowances I could see in place, considering the Wardens have to remain neutral in that kind of political affair.

That's not quite what I got out of it.

Duncan: And you will join the Grey Wardens.
PC: No.
Duncan: But thou must!
PC: No.
Duncan: But thou must!
PC: Okay.

The Right of Conscription is the right to take people with the family/organization objects. Thus Duncan can take Alistiar even though the Grand Cleric hates the idea. Duncan can also take people who are condemned to die, etc.

At no point did I get the idea that the Grey Wardens could recruit those who do not want to join. And even if they could, I think trying that with a reigning monarch, which is what Anora is for most of the game, would not work.

The right of conscription can force people into joining. It's how Duncan himself joined, after all.

The question is whether or not they can force royalty because that could be seen as a political bias.

Well, I know that in the Dwarf Commoner origin you can say that your place is there with your sister and everything and Duncan basically just goes "lawlno, ur conscripted, come on". You don't just break down and go with him, he makes you.

1) The templars can't do anything about it so I have no idea why that would cause trouble. All Gregoir can do is sputter when Duncan recruits you in the mage origin.
2) That dialogue only appears at the end of the Circle questline. You can't go up to Wynne in camp and tell her. She might have a problem with Jowan. But that's not your problem. Everyone seems to have a problem with Morrigan yet she still travels around with us just fine,.

In the mage origin you also aren't defending a blood mage who's there, you just helped one who's now gone without you knowing he was even a blood mage. While admitablly they probably won't be able to do anything to YOU, they would try to send people to kill Jowan (and by extension you, since you'd be defending him unless you just handed him over).
