Here is the thread.

If the page ever goes down send me an message. I have the webpage and all necessary files stored on my harddrive. I think this site has a means of posting such files.

Bumping this for great justice, so people who post new threads can notice it hopefully before just making a new thread and asking what can be answered here :P

Stickying because it's good, useful, and probably frequently asked.

The thread doesn't (didn't) seem to show any "pinned" icon, however (not for the first 3 1/2 days after Stanley posted about it) .

In the link The Twilight God provided, there is written:
"Download the SecuROM-updated .exe's. This is NOT NECESSARY for, and should NOT be done with, the "Best of PC" version of KotOR 1. Once again, these two files are for the US versions of KotOR 1&2".
I have the Italian version of the game, so I suppose I have to find another version for running the game. Where should I find it? I am not an expert of that site and I must admit I haven't understood why I need a working exe (I mean, the game comes with an exe. I would hope the patch resolved whatever problem, so to have a working exe!).
Can you please tell me what I have to do?
Thanks

Since ten months have passed after Twilight wrote, he probably isn't visiting every day lately.  You can try sending him a PM, or just join the Lucas Arts Forums and run a search over there.

KotOR2 was not a Bioware game, it was Obsidian, and the official support was Lucas Arts.

Well, even without using the SecuROM exe file, my game is running. I've just followed the other step in that guide. So, for now, things seem to be ok. I just hope they will continue in this way :-D
Now I am installing KotOR 2. I hope in the same luck!

New update. While KotOR 2 doesn't run at all, KotOR1 run smoothly, except for cutscene. My monitor changes resolution (very low) and I just see black. Then the game works perfectly again after the cutscene.
Do you know if there's a thread or some help around on this topic? Thanks. :-)

Hello every one! I have found a solution to getting kotor 2 to run on my pc. (this is assuming you can get the game to launch and this only fixes some random crashes and load screen failures)

What I have found is that you need to turn off ALL graphic options (you can keep the graphics set to high) so this include AA, v sync all those extra options. Next swap your screen resolution down to 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz. This seems to stop alot of load issues for my system.

The next step is once you start the game and make a character save and then download Steam (if you don't already have it) Go to the games library and at the lower left it will say "+ Add A Game" there is an option to add non-steam games to steam. Do this because now the game files will load from steam instead of the disk and so it bypasses any problems the disk seems to have.

THIS MIGHT NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE! It is still a start though. If I find anything else I will post it.

for kotor 2 you might get the game to run if you uninstall it then reinstall (completely remove all files from your system including saved games) from there if that does not work go to configure and disable the sound and cinematics. It might help the game start.

Figured I might aswell put my question here too.

Anyone got a working link to the mss32.dll file? Just says 403 - Forbidden on my end when I try to download it. No firewalls activated.

There's a New way to get these games to work on Modern OS's

Simply go to GOG.com and buy the DRM free versions Guaranteed to run on Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8)

Unlike Steam that sells you the game regardless of whether it will run on your PC or not, GOG actually provides a new installer to make sure it will run, removes the DRM and otherwise leaves the game alone, this provides the perfect base game to mod from.

THe first game was released a couple of months back and yesterday The Sith Lords joined it.

Star Wars™ Knights of the Old Republic™ ● GOG.com

Star Wars™ Knights of the Old Republic™ II: The Sith Lords™ ● GOG.com

I bought both of these from Steam and never got them running properly and had no hesitation buying from GOG, KotOR ran fine and KotOR II is downloading now.

I will say this is PC gaming and though most have no issues, some inevitably do. That's when the Guarantee is great, contact GOG within 28 days and they will first support your efforts to get the game to run. If that fails yoiu get a full refund,

{Edit}

Damn KotOR 2 ran the Start Logo's fine, but then went to a Black Screen, worse KotOR did the same. Do I need to contact GOG for the first time, no Both having same issue says user SNAFU. Sure enough

Star Wars Series\Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords\Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords (GOG)\

was completely Empty and

Star Wars Series\Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic\Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic (GOG)\

contained both Exe's

swkotor.exe

swkotor2.exe

The stupid user installed both in the same Folder, it didn't like that. Everything works OK when done right.

Cut and paste is to blame, not me honest.

{End Edit}

The final bonus for all you Star Wars fans is these are part of a general deal with Lucas Arts (Disney really as they bought it) to release many, maybe all their games.

The full List is

1st Batch
Star Wars™: X-Wing Special Edition
Star Wars™: TIE Fighter Special Edition
Star Wars™ Knights of the Old Republic™

2nd Batch
Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II
Star Wars™: Dark Forces
Star Wars™ Knights of the Old Republic™ II: The Sith Lords™

2nd Batch - digital distribution debut, on GOG.com!
Star Wars™: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter
Star Wars™: X-Wing Alliance™
Star Wars™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga

3rd Batch

Announced but no game detals given

{Edit} unil now 2 days later

Star Wars™: Rogue Squadron - digital distribution debut, on GOG.com!

Star Wars™ Rebellion - digital distribution debut, on GOG.com!

Star Wars™ Empire at War: Gold Pack is now also available for purchase, DRM-free with a 72-hour, 20% launch discount!

4th Batch still to come very soon maybe tomorrow

Additionally TSLRCM - The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod is due an update in a few days, TSLRCM v1.8.3 is the existing Mod, the game runs OK, with the mod installed, but no more checking has been done. Due to the imminent update being about to drop, the TSLRCM Team will just make sure the new version works with the GOG DRM free version, before releasing the update.

All GOG have done is use a DRM free version, provided by Lucas Arts/Disney from their well maintained Archives. I expect it will need no changes, but good modders make sure first.

{End Edit}

Long time player, haven't posted here in years.  I am trying to get KotOR 1 to install on Win 10 64 bit.  I set the installer to run in Compatibility Mode for Win XP SP 3 (I have both the original and the Collector's edition disks.) and the installer gets to selecting a location (Which I choose as my Games drive on D) and it won't go past that.  I got KotOR 2 from the same set to install with only a few problems (And I got around those after some research.)  But I cannot appear to get around this.  Any help?  The linked thread goes through the steps that I already tried, and I can get to the installer, but it will not run.

Hey, hi. This is my first time posting on a Forum like this, but I am having some issues getting KOTOR 1 and 2 to run on my Windows 8 computer. I can get right through the character creation on both, and right when it will put me into the tutorial/introduction, the game crashes and doesn't give me any sort of error message whatsoever. And I am not sure what is going on, can someone try to help me out?

The Steam version of KOTOR 1 crashes whenever I have frame buffer effects enabled. Why can't it be fixed so that we can play the game with said effects?

I am not sure if is right to post a fix i had to do for KOTOR 2 Sith Lords [[THIS FIX WAS FOR SITH LORDs>>>KOTOR 2 ]]

but anyway after changing out my Vid card for a newer, and better one>> KOTOR 2 would not work any more, when loading a game I would get a black screen.

I had to go into the swkotor2.ini

under [Graphics Options]

and set Frame Buffer=1 to Frame Buffer=0

[Graphics Options]
V-Sync=1
Anisotropy=8
Frame Buffer=0    <<<<<< here >>>>>>>
Anti Aliasing=8
Texture Quality=2
Grass=1
Soft Shadows=0
Shadows=1
Brightness=51
RefreshRate=60
Height=1080
Width=1920
EnableHardwareMouse=1
FullScreen=1
AllowSoftShadows=1
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=0

This seem to fix everything back to normal,  Maybe some one might be helped by this. Sorry if it is a bother.
