The question is simple enough. How would the standard/ideal builds for party members (and parties generally) change, if companions lacked the arbitrary "missing tree" restrictions? (That is to say: Fenris can sword-and-board, Sebastian can learn Lacerate, Merrill is no longer a Dalish Keeper who can't bloody heal).
Varric and Isabela seem fairly no-brainer, since their personal trees pretty much demand their default weapons (Varric bugs out badly if you unequip Bianca, besides). But Merrill with Creation makes me curious. Heroic Aura is a lot less expensive to a blood mage, and Moar Haste is kind of a no-brainer, but what do you give up for those 3-5 points? Does that free up Anders to take different spells (a one-point dip for Horror perhaps)? Or even justify dropping Anders from the party entirely? Does Seb's crazy survivability make him a better candidate for Isabela's usual role than Isabela herself? S&B is just generally a superior tree to 2h, particularly for non-PCs; is there any reason to keep Carver and Fenris as 2hers (apart from maybe Bloom)?
