So I have the Ultimate Edition of DAO. Going to be playing this game for the first time.  In what order and when should I play each of the DLC?  I know 4 of the DLC are stand alone and do give rewards upon completion to my character in the main campaign.  I noticed one DLC is about searching for a character that leaves during the main campaign, so obviously I will want to hold off on that till after that character leaves during the main campaign.  What about the other ones, when is a good time to play those?  How about the DLC quests that are with in the main game? My plan is to take my character from Origins campaign and import him over to the Awakening campaign, and from my understanding some DLC items will not transfer over, so I will want to get some good use out of the items not transferable before ending the main campaign.

What I did was that I just played the DLC within the game such as Warden's Keep, The Stone Prisoner, and Return to Ostagar as I progressed through the game. When I finished Origins, I did all the standalone DLC then proceeded to Awakening.

The general advice is this:

Origins plus all internal DLC then to Awakening then to Golems and finally Witch Hunt.

That way you cna import your character across them. Note you can't import an origins dude into WH and then import that WH dude into Golems or Awakening. It's only DAO > Awakening > Golems > WH.

Song and Darkspawn I save till last. This assume you've never played DAO before. Might as well go through it once in one story as one Warden then cover the last 2 after.

You can play Leliana's Song before playing playing DA:O itself. This is because Leli's Song actually takes place before DA: Origin. And you get some nice gear from this dlc, too :)

edit:

I'll play the Stone Prisoner (shale that is) on your way to Haven to a certain area where you'll need to find something really important. Also, Shale should be in your party when going through a certain part of the deep roads.

Shale doesn't need to be with you in "that certain part of the Deep Roads". Her personal quest becomes activated when you take her back to the Deep Roads after Orzammar is resolved.
