Typical apologist attitude. Because every single variable being taken into account during the final 15 minutes is the obvious way to develop games and make choices matter.
Why shouldn't choices come back before the series finale? Or within the game they're made? I mean, there's no reason the Rachni couldn't have come to humanity's aid during Ilos, the Siege on the Citadel, Freedom's Progress, Horizon, etc.
I'd normally bring up Alpha Protocol as an example of how choice should be handled within a game, but I've been looking up the Witcher 2 lately (I shouldn't spoil myself, waiting for the 360 release) and the entire middle arc of that game changes radically based on one decision. Hell, even Gears of War handles choice/consequence better with their LT/RT-moments.
Looking for actual gameplay and/or story consequences, the only "choices" I've seen in Mass Effect so far are the mission order, and whether or not you complete every one of them.
Yep and there's two equally viable paths unlike in ME where it's winner takes all(Paragon) vs a gimped troll path for the lulz(Renegade). You see the actual consequences of your choices within the game itself and there's none of this bull**** of choices existing in vacuums like the Rachni decision having no impact on the Krogans.
