Who in their right mind wouldn't want FemShep to be more feminine. She better have womanly animations in ME3.

She don't have to be more feminine just let her walk, sit, run, and cross her arms more feminine . She will always be a bad ass.

Femininity would not revoke her badass status in my eyes. Not sure about anyone else.

Wouldn't at all, just a toggle would be nice. Because if female Shepard can be more feminine, why not male Shepard?

Heh. Actual conversation between my girlfriend and I from several months ago:

ME: "Some have said The Witcher 2 handles certain choice-related paths even better than Mass Effect. That sort of entices me."
HER "Have they given better animations to the female version of the lead?"
ME: "Er... about that."

Yep. Color me stupid but I actually bought the game before I discovered it was an all guy orgy game. It's currently sitting in timeout on my naughty shelf...right next to Two Worlds.

I think that male Shepard is too masculine. But it is just my opinion, I am in a great minority here, nothing in the game is going to change for me alone. I like to play dudes from Final Fantasy. And just in case - I'm straight.

Cloud? Squall? Ramza? Fei, if we're extending to other strong leads from that era of good JRPGs? Yeah, they're cool.

Yes. They are badass, and exeptionally good looking, they also don't hide their emotions a lot.

Male? Badass? Emotion? One of these does not belong.

Er, is it male? J/k! :P

:blink:Correct?...

I think such threads are made because female gamers in general have a difficult time being acknowleged, and we would like our slice of game preferences to be considered. FemShep sharing animations with MaleShep makes the experience feel less unique, and like FemShep is second class as a character.  Gender stereotypes aren't really a factor for me, it's about equality in gaming, which we are still a long way away from, sadly.

Indeed.

I don't see how equality can be formed if gender stereotypes that create inequality are being enforced.
Female Shepard is one of the most respected women in the Mass Effect universe and I'd argue one of the most out of all heroines in video games, sci-fi, comics, ect. Her capablities is questioned based on gender once by that batarian on archangels recruit mission, and I really don't want to see bulls*** like that again just so other people can somehow "feel connected" to her through something sexist. I get enough of it on a daily bases working in an electronics department, from men and women alike.

She doesn't need to be a man to gain anything, but she doesn't need to prove she is a woman either. What defines her is her talents and skill. Not how she walks and sits.

Same goes for male Shepard of course.

I thought that batarian was a nice touch strictly because it was the only time I'd ever seen it happen. I wouldn't want to see it happen more often. Patrick Weekes actually had a blog post some months back about this where he took a lot of fan reactions into consideration. He really jettisoned himself up higher on my 'respected people' list when I saw that his ultimate statement was in line with my thoughts -- once or twice to show a rare scoundrel is interesting; more than that and it's probably just a reminder to female gamers of a thing they already have to deal with and justifiably do not enjoy.

My girlfriend's opinion is about the same, although she's the one who gets targeted by (most of the...) cat calls from cars and trucks while walking somewhere, not me. I can totally understand how she'd be that much more exhausted of it and wouldn't want to see it in Mass Effect pretty much ever. Cannot blame her one bit. Can't blame you either.

Yeahhh... I remember that thread that popped up here a few weeks ago where a forumite claimed The Witcher 2 was 'beating Bioware at its own game' and proceeded to showcase some 'intimate' romance scene he/she claimed 'was infinitely better than Bioware's'. All I can say is I definitely felt like a Bioware fan after watching the link he provided...

Nah. I'm not here to diss my male gaming brethren.  I happen to have great admiration for men as a whole, and hope they all feel free to express their emotions...unless they don't want to. ^_^

I agree with Mshep being to masculine. I imagine classes like engineer and adept being LESS bulky, but the models they use for the guys are all ripped. Anderson's ripped, Kaidan's ripped,Joker's ripped, UDINA is ripped. seriously, everyone can't be this ripped in the future.

I agree with this. I am personally always more attracted to tall & lean men, like basketball players (old-school ballers not the 'roided up ones of today's NBA, lol.)  So the bulked up ones in video games are always meh. -_-

Haha, I don't think I've ever noticed that Udina is ripped.

You know, there aren't like... any fat people whatsoever in the Mass Effect universe. Unless they're volus. That's just how they look though. It's as if all the galaxy's fat was thrown into the volus people via some warped salarian experiment to increase life expectancy.

As I stated before, my objection is FemShep sharing all animations with MaleShep. A woman's center of gravity is different, a woman walks and stands differently than a man would. I would like to see that reflected, and I don't think that has anything to do with gender stereotyping. If you do, then we will just have to agree to disagree.

Oh heck, I love Geralt. I love playing as him and I love the romance between him and Triss Merigold.  (She is a pretty strong female character, btw.)

Also the series is developed from The Witcher book series and there are no female witchers... It would be nice if they made one game where you could play as Triss though they'd have to call it The Sorceress or something.

inb4 people mix up "feminine" with "barbie".

She has no testicles, yet walks as if they are in the way. She limps with arms at her sides while in a dress at a fancy party while trying to be covert. Sits with her legs wide open. Runs like she has a mans skeletel structure.

Fix it!

It's basically soft porn of the cartoon variety. I don't want to see BioWare go in that direction, but I would like a return to the tastefully done love scenes of ME1. I found ME2 and DA2 very disappointing in that department.

It has to do with body structure. And athletic women tend to have structure similar to men. Shepard should be more or less athletic I think. The difference is minimum.

Lady Hawke walks like  a woman why cant Lady Shepard do the same.

I wouldn't go that far. FemHawke's walk/run made me facepalm for going too far to the other extreme. If she really walked like that, I think she would soon need hip replacement surgery. I wouldn't like to see that for FemShep, just a happy medium would be nice.

Yes the femshep do share the same animation as Maleshep I notice it right away. and I was little dissapointed.because I thought they would differ form one and another.

Maybe there can be a DLC where femShep has to go undercover to infiltrate a beauty pageant, and there she can learn how to be more feminine. After that she has her own animations.

The femshep dress was the only time where the shared animations were a problem. I think it's fine that the animations are the same for each Shepard, the quality of some anims definitely needs to be raised though.

Dress or no dress, sitting FemShep made me facepalm. Most women don't sit with their legs splayed into two different time zones. That's an inherently male thing to do. ;)

I do it. I am very female. In fact, wearing dresses is awkward for me because I have to fight the urge to spread my legs and slouch when I'm sitting.

It'd be nice if they went back to femShep's running/jogging animation of ME1. That was nice and neutral. No gorrila-run, and no wiggly hips. Just normal. MaleShep could do with a normal run too.

I think what they did in ME1 was make a 'base' running animations, and then, depending on the gender, tweaked how much the animation was able to move (0.8x for M!shep, 1.2x for F!shep or something).

That probably only made sense to me, but if anybody understands what I said (doubtful), would that be a cool idea?

Also, different dance animations. Shepard Shuffle is... baaaaaaaad.

Let's put it this way.

What if male Shepard's special outfit for Kasumi's mission involved a kilt that was a little short. An argument would be when Shepard(male or female) sits in front of Garrus, no one wants to see where the sun don't shine, and Shepard(male or female) should close their legs.

However the argument I keep seeing when it comes to femShep is because she is a woman and women don't sit like that. That's what is annoying me about this argument about making female Shepard have so called "feminine" animations. It's not about what's natural, it's about what a woman's behavior should be.

To me "feminine" walk and "feminine" sitting is through social influences. For a woman to get her hips to truly sway, they need to learn to walk on a line. That is what fashion models do on the run way. Men actually have a sway in their walk too if you watch carefully, it's just how humans walk. I think the illusion of a natural sway created by women is through the curve of the hips. Which is what we see in cut scenes when femShep is walking and it appears as though her hips sway. She's still using the same exact walk as male Shepard, she just has hips that creates the illusion of a sway.

I've had a friend who's mother constantly berated her for how she walked because it wasn't "feminine." Honestly now that I think of it, she walked like femShep. Very so called "masculine." She wasn't even an athlete or soldier. In fact she was pretty so called "feminine" in personality, liked pink and make up. But her walk wasn't so called "feminine." To me, it's something social.

If a woman is wearing pants, then she should sit how she feels comfortable, which could mean with her legs apart. I don't understand where it goes from being inappropriate when sitting in a chair, to appropriate when a woman sits cross legged or in a meditation type position. Is it because her feet are in the way now? If she were wearing a dress she'd be exposing herself far worse. My only conclusion is there some kind of social silliness behind it.
