So last night, I decided to kill Flemeth for Morrigan.  As I understand, you should not have her in your party when you do this, so I went with Alistair, Leliana, and Wynne.  I am a backstabbing rogue, level 11.  The rest are level 10.

I chose to kill Flemeth and she changed into a dragon.  I've never fought a dragon before, so I knew I was in for it.  The other day, we rolled Uldred without any deaths, but I knew this encounter would be tougher.

Well, before anyone could get close to her, I had already downed several health potions.  Just getting to the hut, we had been interrupted in our travel, and burned a few more of my limited health potions killing the guy who cheated the mages.

Alistair could barely hold aggro on Flemeth for long, he was getting thrown around repeatedly.  I kept watching Leliana, and it looked like she was missing most of the time.  Because the dragon is so big, it takes up the entire screen, plus some, so I couldn't see the numbers flying out of her head very well.  I could not get a good idea of who was able to hit her.  A combat log would've been really handy here.

So, Alistair died, got resurrected, then we ran out of health potions and he died again.  That was pretty much it.  We wiped.  That hasn't happened to me before.  That Flemeth is very powerful.  We had her down to 40% health.

I'm wondering if I'm doing this quest too early.  At what level do some of the rest of you like to do this?  Please don't post many spoilers or strategies.  I know I can beat her, just wondering if I'm doing this a little too soon.

Thanks.

It can be done at fairly low level, if you use proper strategy and equipment. Personally, I usually do it at level 14-15.

Hm, with rogue I do it at the level 14-15, with my Surana I've just finished it and I'm on level 13. Mages are awesome like that. :)

Well, yeah.  I don't feel very good about it 'cuz I have to do this without Morrigan's offensive firepower.  Plus she's also a healer, so my party is not operating at maximum effectiveness without her.

Ok, I will probably wait a bit before trying this again.  Many other quests to do and Wynne is about to level.

Thanks.

I normally wait until level 14 or later to attempt to kill Flemeth. It is a difficult task, as you already know.

It can definitely get weird if your character gets stuck under her.

The quest will be available until the Landsmeet is called (you've done all the treaty quests), so you can just leave Flemeth until then if you like.

I have not found a way to build Alistair effectively as a meat shield or DPS he dies so much if left on his own or drains your health pot supply.

I always range Flemeth  and have done it close to the beginning directly after Mage Circle (2nd quest) - if you want to melee be higher level.  Although I always play on EASY - friendly fire sounds like a pain in the **** LOL

Last attempt was just - Zev, Kyerra (rogue/ranger), Leiliana , Wynne.  Zev can tank as long as archers hold agro and Wynne actually heals occasionally, but I prefer him to range until she is 3/4 down at least  then Zev and Kyerra often go in and finish her off by trading aggro/sneak attacks - although at low level this isnt as effective as the sneak attack is less effective... It appeared to be anyway.

ps all my fav characters can range/with bow without interuption - which means putting one skill into Archery at least plus I favour Dexterity for those 3 characters which benefits their archery/daggers and defence scores I think

I always wait until level 12. before that the characters miss to often and i really like Wynne to have the lifeward spell for the "crunsh the tank" moments. Range DDs are always nice (Leliana is always archer). level 14-15 is a little bit to easy.

Only the high dragon is a harder fight( broodmother a close second) IMO. I know that lady who arrests you after freeing Anora was dam hard but you are not suppose to win that fight even though it is possible. For Flemeth I use 1 mage and 3 ranged. I have never been able to get Alistair to hold aggro and when i did it as a tank I needed to use the mage spell that makes it so I don't take damage or get healed which saved on health pots but takes away another source of damage.

Definitely would wait until at least level 15 before attempting as a rogue, when you and your companions will have better stats and weapons. As a rogue, simply work your way behind her and start backstabbing. When she inevitably turns to face you, just start circling around to the back. If she follows, keep circling. Let Alistair, Wynne, and Lelianna do damage until she shifts her attention back to them. Resume backstabbing.

My most recent character was a rogue, and I waited until level 17 to tackle her out of fear of being too squishy. Was cake by then, even on nightmare.
