Hi all,

I recently bought both NWN and NWN2 off Atari as a download. I have managed to get NWN to work in multiplayer but not NWN2. I get the CD key is unregistered message.

I have Win 7, so I tried to follow Arkalezth's instructions for Vista/Win 7 users and I hope I got it right. I opened a config file, Selected new and then typed in the all the information exactly from my old nwncdkey.ini file into my 'new' nwncdkey.ini file. It still doesn't work. I tried renaming it nwn2cdkey.ini but nothing works.

Did I follow the instructions correctly, or did I miss something?

Thanks, in advance

Jay

You copied the nwn1 keys for use in nwn2? I'm confused.

Hi Kamal,

No, I didn't copy the NWN key for use in NWN2. I downloaded NWN and NWN2, it is a complete package with 6 CD keys in all. The first 3 are for NWN and the next 3 are for NWN2. Because of compatibility problems NWN didn't work on Windows 7 at first. But I managed to fix that.

The problem I'm having with NWN2 is that the CD keys that Atari gave me via email are coming up as 'The CD Key is unregistered. Please contact AtariUS/support for assistance'. Atari Customer Support is none existent. They referred me to Obsidian Entertainment.

I have looked at various forums for a solution and this forum seems to be the best. I tried Arkalezth's Window 7/Vista solution, but it didn't work for me. I'm hoping I got the instructions correct.

Jay

I know of a player who has Windows 7 (I have Vista), and had problems with the fix posted above (he couldn't change the file type from .txt to .ini). I'll copy his fix in case it can help others in the same situation:

You're not supposed to put .ini in the name itself. I used the nwn2cdkey method.

I opened another INI file, selected " new", copied the template below, added manually the cd keys ( thanks clipboard) saved it as nwn2cdkey without the ini and it appeared as a config file and NOT as a txt file..

This worked for me!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!  :lol::o:happy::P:)

Make sure that you save the file as a general (*.*) file, not as a text file (*.txt) when it will add a .txt to the end of your file name.

None of this seems to be working for me, I created to folder, named it nwncdkey and then typed in
[CDKEY]
Key1=(CD Key)
Key2=(CD Key)
Key3=(CD Key)

manually, and yet it doesn't seem to work, it's labeled itself as Config. Settings as well, this is the closest I have felt i've gotten to fixing the dang problem, but even this doesn't seem to work.

Bonjour à tous,

Pour les problèmes de clés CD, vous pouvez créer dans le dossier Mes Documents un fichier Bloc Notes nommé "nwncdkey.ini" qui contiendra :

[CDKEY]
Key1=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Key2=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Key3=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

et vous récuperez, pour ceux qui ont Steam, les clés CD en les collant dans le presse papier, une par une, et en les mettant dans l'ordre, vous l'enregisrez et vous vous connectez au Multijoueurs.

Voilà.

I am trying to install NWN2 on a desktop PC. This is a new install from scratch from my original CDs purchased back in 2008 which were installed once on a laptop that died due to unknown causes.

Install shield stops at point where I need to enter CD key. I enter the CD key from the inside cover of my game manual. I get an "invalid CD key" message and I recheck what I entered and it is exactly what is in the inside cover.

If it's the nwn2 Gold version you might have to switch the keys for the OC & MotB around, vice versa

Thanks for the instructions, everybody. (Even though it was a long time ago.)
I had the same problem, with the steam version on a new computer. For some reason, the first cd key had been removed from the file, even though the other two were still in there. Pretty weird...

I am having this same problem but I'm running on the GOG version.  I also own a physical copy of the game as well as a Steam copy, so I'm unsure why I can't just log into my account that already has CD keys attached to it.

Well I have the original game with the original keys, but when I reinstalled it following a crash I found that those keys didn't work on the install and I had to use 'cracked' keys instead. I then manually edited in the correct keys so that it works on my PWs. No idea why there are still issues around keys, but there are - all your versions should have keys, so try the different ones. I think early GOG versions had the wrong keys fro the wrong expansions; maybe try the GOG boards.

With the GOG version, you click on NWN2 in your library, at the top left you click on "More" & then serial keys.
You can the use serialtool.exe to add them, or just edit nwncdkey.ini (Both in the games root directory)
