Broken Map Graphics

I run the game on my laptop. The specs are:
Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3
Intel Core 2 CPU T5600 @ 1.83GHz
2.0 GB of RAM
My video card is: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (0x7145)
Course I probably just found the problem by saying that because I realize that my video card is old (this is a 5-6 year old laptop). But I don't have any problems with lagging or breaking. The graphics are fine and run smoothly. So I was wondering if there is a fix for this or am I just going to have to deal with it? If anything the broken map is just annoying.

The X1400 is not a game-capable device, being well below the X2600 and X1800 cards, plus being in a laptop. There will be far more failures on its part than you have seen to this point. Your CPU is also very weak for a C2D (barely at the minimum). You need a newer PC.
If I had the money I would consider getting a desktop or another laptop built for gaming (which is what I have right now but as I said it's already 5-6 years old). I manage to get away with a lot on this laptop due to fact that 95% of the games I play on my laptop are set at the lowest setting possible.

The one you have now was not built for the games of 5 years ago, but for the business graphics applications of that time period. The X1650 cards (and Geforce 7600 GTs) were the (Mainline) game cards back then.
That's why I estimated between 5-6 years ago. And actually it will be 6 years since I've owned this laptop in a couple of months since I did get this laptop as a birthday present when I had turned 16.
Anyways that was how this laptop was marketed. It was built for gaming and other media at the time I got it. But if I remember correctly the laptop was also priced down so it may actually even be 7 years old or so.
Even then, I still don't have any other graphical problems with the game or any other games I own. The only game to give me problems was Borderlands where I basically couldn't run it at all (the game would just blue screen me). So far the only problem I experience with Dragon Age 2 is the mini and main maps. There is no lag, no clipping or sputtering, basically it runs as well as the other games I have when set on the lowest setting.

The release dates for video card generations haven't been on a regular cycle in about seven years now. In nVIDIA's case, the complexity of their chips kept on growing rapidly in that period, while ATI has been shrinking their own chips by comparison (past three years in their case).

Can you post a screenshot of what's wrong? "Broken" isn't very helpful.
Sorry, but for whatever reason I can't take a screenshot of the game. And to make sure there wasn't a problem with my laptop I tested to see if I could get a screenshot of my desktop, of which it worked fine. But I did look back on some old threads in the forum and found a thread that addressed this problem and provided screenshots: See second post. But by looking through that old thread it would seem that there isn't much of a fix for it. So I'll just deal with the broken maps considering that the game runs just fine (in fact it runs a lot smoother than many of the other games I have even when set at the lowest setting).

That sort of artifacting is almost certainly an issue with your GPU. I'd suggest it's overheating, but if it's always like that, even when you first start the game, that's less likely.
Really, you're card's just old. Put up with weird-ass maps or upgrade

Nah it's always like that so it's not overheating.
That's what I figured in my first post when I even mentioned the videocard. I knew that I would have ended up answering my own problem but since I haven't had any other difficulties outside of the maps I thought there might be a work around. When the demo for the game first came out I had the very same problem with the maps and figured that maybe since it was just the demo it would be fixed for the final version XD Anyways, again I don't have the money to purchase another gaming laptop or a desktop so I'll just put up with the weird maps. At least the character and destination icons still work
