You know, this shriek looks a lot like the emissary in DA2. This furthers my belief that the emissaries in DA2 were not hurlocks, but instead were shriek versions.

Well game files say this is a Shriek Assassin, so maybe the Emissaries are shriek emissaries.

Even though they were mostly Hurlocks in DAO, I think the Emissaries in DA2 are probably Shrieks. They do have the pointy ears, and it's apparently a staple of Shrieks to have red bulging eyes and visibly long tongues in DA2. There were Genlock Emissaries too in DAO, afterall, so all Emissaries don't have to be Hurlocks.

Notice the mottled skin, too.

Oh, so this may be the weird gremlin-Salacious Crumb-Stalfos thing that Hawke and Tallis are fighting in some of the MotA vids.

Um no I'm pretty sure those are not the same creatures.

...maybe more spikes, a darker color palette, and some dripping corruption might make it better.
And have the arm blades AS the hands, not attached to.
I could accept that then.

For Shrieks:

1) a return to the DAO style (color scheme and sharp teeth included)
2) drop the protrusions from the old style
3) move the ears down
4) give them a more elf-like body. Looking at the old design, they seem to have pointed feet, while the new design has more normal-esque feet.
5) make their heads more narrow and have less of a giant forehead.

that's what I posted a few weeks ago.

And for your arm blade thing, DAO's shrieks had the blades attached as well.

There are certain elements about this new design that are alright and could help the overall design of what a Shriek should be, but this design is not what I want to see.

Posted Image agreed. I also like the new teeth. Some sharp, others not. And the general design of the face is pretty good.

I think the main problem is just the color scheme and the eyes. These closeup shots definitely helped. Especially the romance ones Posted Image.

I'm still waiting for my The Messenger LI and companion Bioware. Make it so

My big problem is simply the armour, why can't they do it similar to the Genlocks where they had very little armour? Genlocks where awesome :wizard:

Not sure if you guys are being serious about the tongue, but I much prefer the screenshots without the tongue... it preserves some of the 'wolfish' stretched snout look of their mouth and even keeps the mandibles in a sense with the design of the helmet, but in a way that makes more sense.

The armor for the Genlocks was actually something I hated. I'd prefer that the Darkspawn as a whole have some half-assed armor that isn't so spiky but also looks like it could serve a function in battle.

Primitive to go with how bestial they are, but still relatively effective so that they're not exposed everywhere.

I really don't mind the tongue. I actually kinda like it, for the reasons you've provided. Though I dislike the design of the helmet, but that's something else entirely.

Well it makes sense for a Genlock not to be decked out like Hurlocks, Shrieks should have there clothing though, but little armour because they are stealthy creatures.

The helmet needs to go, trim down the chest armour and it would be ok.
