Might as well post this since, people are still talking about Dark Souls:

Get it on the PC? Japan doesn't need the PC. That really is their attitude, and another reason why Japanese games remain one step behind western devs.

While I agree that Japanese developers should try to port their games to the PC, Dark Souls is not one step behind any western developer. The combat system of Dark Souls is the best of any ARPG on the market. I haven't seen an single ARPG with such fluid combat system.

+1
You FEEL the backstabs, ripostes and critical strikes.

This. Honestly, DA2 should have been looking to take inspiration from Dark Souls, especially if they wanted a way to spice up gameplay.

I can imagine something like a Dragon Age game with the combat system of Dark Souls and the storyline of BioWare. Now that would be a game worth playing, just as long as they go back to the silent protagonist
Anyways, From Software did a better job than Demon's because the graphics are incredible. I mean Anor Londo is just beautiful. I think that all western developers can take a page from Dark Souls' combat system. Not only can you feel each blow/riposet, each weapon has its own moveset and playstyle. I mean how much better can the combat system get? They just need a story to match the amazing combat. I can just imagine if they hired Obsidian to do their next storyline. Now that would be a match made in heaven.
Although I prefer isometric strategy type combat, Dark Souls' is what any ARPG should try to emulate.

I don't know why Bioware is so hell bent on changing things. They can add new features to the ME series. Dragon Age should have remained like Origins was. It's hard to find a modern day RPG like Origins. I know people say The Witcher 2 is as hardcore with choices and consequences but the combat system is more modern. The combat of Origins was like the combat system of NWN where statistics were very important.
They really need to bring back the charisma statistic. You had skills such as perform, horse riding, taunting, lock picking, trap setting, detecting and so on in NWN and in Dragon Age 2, what do we have? Nothing!

I'm about 15 hours in...and I'm slowly advancing and progressing. It's been a long time since I was, challenged like this. And never before has exploration been this exhilerating. When I go into a new main area or even a specific small area off the beaten path, I never know what to expect and I know I could be walking into instantaneous death. Or a trap. I get really nervous...especially when I'm lugging around thousands of souls.
I left Undead Asylum after exploring and beating the Asylum Demon. I went to Lordran and went off exploring and checking things out. Ended inevitably in Undead Burg, as the other path, as you all probably know...to the Catacombs...was guarded by mid level skeletons. I explored the Burg thoroughly, made my way to Undead Parish...beat the Bell Tower Gargoyles (and got a nifty axe from cutting off the non-firespitters' tail...purely lucky
I hate that stupid a-hole! I get OBLITERATED. Gonna level a lot more.
Wound up in Darkroot Garden, thoroughly exploring and, collecting and what not. That's where I'm at now. Just took out that miniboss guarding the crossover hall...no more dodging electricity now and booking tail through there.
I love enemy AI. I like the critical attack animations that can be an insta-kill, and I love the atmosphere and beautiful music. It's genuinely an amazing game.
Nito, The Witch of Izalith, Gwyn and the Fertive Pygmy are very Sauron-ish, too

It also has some excellent, unique online components, what with the "messages", summoning, and invasions - it's one of the only games I play over Xbox Live.
I also love the dark, oppressive, and lonely atmosphere of this game - it reminds me a bit of Nosgoth from the original Soul Reaver. But even amidst the grim atmosphere, there is also a kind of... beauty to be found. It's not quite like any other game I've played.
I also love the music, which lends itself to the atmosphere perfectly - my favorite track so far is Firelink Shrine. Such a... sad song, yet it's also very beautiful. I also love the voice acting, particularly the narrator at the beginning - she has an intoxicating voice.
I'm not far into the game yet though - just now getting to the Undead Parish, after beating Havel and the Taurus Demon. I might try to kill the drake before moving on - and killing the damn Black Knight up at the top of that tower would be a plus as well.
So far, I give this game a 9/10 - there is a likelihood that score could go to 10 if it keeps up the pace.

Same tactic for black knights too.
If you are feeling lucky you can try parry+riposte for black knights but 1 small error will get you comboed and dead.
And no i watched some gameplay videos, so exactly know what that dragon gonna do and im also trained for it with Demons Souls.

Exactly how I feel. And it's funny because I've had my Xbox for seven years and I've never gone gold on my live account. Dark Souls, with its unique implementation, is the first game that I ever felt like it would add to the experience. Hell, they make it part of the lore, which is awesome. It's so subtle, but adds a whole separate layer to the experience, just hearing the Bell of Awakening for other players or seeing their phantoms at a bonfire.

Best line in the game from the Crestfallen Warrior on stealing humanity: "Coveting thy neighbor is only human".

Yep i've played it and finished it on PS 3 not that hard actually, i have played considerably more brutal games especially old japanese impossible to beat games.
What's really hilarious is how, on subsequent playthroughs, areas that took you several hours to explore the first try can be finished in minutes once you learn all the enemies/trap locations.

How active is the multiplayer component on xbox live currently? I'm considering renewing my subscription, if there are still players to invade/get invaded by.
A huge part of it is how active you want to make it, since summoning/being summoned is dependent on you. Some areas are more "ripe" for invasion than others; I was invaded within five minutes of becoming human in Anor Londo, but explored the depths for 30 minutes while nothing attacked me. Finding summon signs/being summoned is also pretty easy, assuming you place your marker in a reasonable spot. I had ran into a million of them at a bonfire in Anor Londo, just in time to help with Smough and Ornstein.
Overall, I'd say there's definitely enough interactivity to justify the price tag.
