Wouldn't it be an awesome twist if The Reapers gave you an option to work for them..?

You get to play the bad guy.
Now, if he's allowed to make that choice during a regular game (or do enough of the wrong things that he gets indoctrinated during a regular game) that would be fairly awesome.

Think of it as the Helios ending in Deus Ex but in a bigger way.

But Shepard has been doing nothing but fighting the Reapers for the last two games. Every single speech Shepard has given is "WE CAN DEFEAT THEM. HUMANITY CAN DO THIS, WE MUST DO THIS. THE REAPERS MUST BE STOPPED!" and so on...
Bioware are good writers. They might even be considered the best around, if you take into account how few games Obsidian release, but there is no way they can make that work without it seeming like a giant bucket of cow pat.
In my personal opinion.

Sure, joining the bad guy works in some games.. Games with more freedom through-out the story. Neverwinter Nights 2 had the option, if you'd been evil enough in the *entire* game, to join the bad guy at the end. Destroy the world at the head of his army etcetc.

It's not that hard. If Bioware could pull it off with it coming off as arbitrary, they will definitely get big rep points from me.
They just need to establish the nature of the Reapers. We still know little about these guys and new facts in ME3 can easily change our perspective. To offer godhood to an entire race is something that many humans wouldn't hestitate to obtain at all cost so if the Reapers just handed that to humanity on a silver platter... well, I won't hestitate to accept.

What would make that interesting to play is if the Reapers did it with a light touch as was done with Saren initially - so Shepherd continues to have free will, even if his perceptions are altered.

THEN you can choose to either assist the Reapers in allowing them to finish their job (and save the galaxy from collapsing in on itself) or give them the finger and risk that they may be lying.
it should be an ambiguous choice, and result in the final chapter of the game being completely different - if you chose to fight them, you rally the forces and confront them. but if you choose to side with them, they pull out of the worlds they are on and Shepard becomes their vanguard, he pleads his case to the races of the galaxy.
it would be an insane ending, Shepard, standing before leaders of all the races, asking them to give up everything in order to save the galaxy. its certainly a crazy option.

I kinda like this idea. *runs*matt-bassist wrote...
no one read my post fully - i say the Reapers actually present you with evidence. they dont give you some speech, they show you and explain their purpose.

Its not to farfetch to see Shepard succumbing to indocrination, Shepard is just human and not a God or a Titan.
